Hub Removal???

- Wed Jul 08, 2009 6:17 pm #129231 Trying to get the front hub out of the knuckle assembly. The wheel is stuck on there due to 2 messed up studs and one of those messed up stds is spinning freely with the lug on it. Ive been poundin the damb thing for a while and not budging at all any ideas from someone on here??

- Wed Jul 08, 2009 6:24 pm #129238 no room to get a grinder in there while hub is still in the knuckle and i dont want to grind the rim! I tried getting some vise grips on the backside of the stud but it just spins in the grips.

- Wed Jul 08, 2009 6:43 pm #129250 can you remove the hub with the wheel still on??? just take off the axel nut, pull the lower ball joint nut and coder pin, and remove the upper ball joint nut and coder pin and the whole thing will come off. dont forget to take the caliper and brake lines off the arm. then you can work easyer then under the car.

- Wed Jul 08, 2009 7:26 pm #129297 Yea axle nut is of just dont want to remove ball joints cause im trying not to wreck the boots. So i pulled out the ol dremel and slowly grinding of the back of the studs and just going to hammer them out forwards and the new studs just going to shave down on side of the end of them to get them in for now. Just a temp fix cause come winter all the ball joints bearings are getting replaced with a complete sand blast on all the arms and some exstended studs are going in. This only happened cause im going on holidays on friday!!!!! So much for a simple tire rotation!!! :thumbdown: lol

- Thu Jul 09, 2009 4:50 am #129450 you are going to have to press the hubs off to change the studs... and also press them back on... its a bitch.. theres also like a C clip on the hub it self its kinda bitch to get out of your shit is all rusted up and what not.

- Thu Jul 09, 2009 6:47 am #129459 The whole thing for $4 worth of parts was a huge pain in my ass!!!! I just ended up using my Dremel and slowly ground the one stud flush that had the Lug stuck on it and pounded it through and the other stud shaved of one edge and pounded it out the proper way. As getting the other studs in just ground enough off to just get them in there. All the agony im sure i saved a couple hundred than if i took it too a shop so in the end I supose it was worth the hastle :thumb:
