!!!Civic EG8 OEM suspension height doubts!!!

I hope you can help me. I have serached a lot but can not find a precise answer.

We want to lower a 1992 JDM Civic DX with D15B3 engine and of course EG8 chassis. We select the Tokico HP Suspension kit (blue shocks) because it will be the best bang for the bung for the roads where I live. I want lowered stance (-1.5in all around) with improve suspension handling and enough travel and softness for rough roads. Also the price is really good.

Ok anyway, after looking for pics of the car lowered in those springs, I found some pics with it lowered stance a litte higher than my OEM stock height right now.

Finally if my car at it OEM height (3 fingers F&R between tire and fender), does JDM and USDM EG8 have diffrent ride heigths? are Tokico springs height measure based in which suspension, JDM or USDM ones?

- Fri Oct 30, 2009 4:03 am #153677 US and JDM height should not be any different. Can you post the pics that you are referring to? I'm not an expert on the E8 chassis, but there's plenty of people here who know the sedans well.

I used the Tokico Blues in 2001 when I lowered my car. 8 years later I am still using them, although the rears have been leaking for a few years now. But my suspension has seen a lot of abuse over the years. They are indeed a great bang for the buck :thumb:

In it the height of the lowered pics are almost the same of my OEM height now, 3 fingers at each side more or less.

Any way if anyone have pics of the car in Tokico HP suspension kit will be great too. Let me take some pics of the car and I will post it here.

- Fri Oct 30, 2009 4:32 am #153685 ride height from car to car cannot be compared with the wheel well measurement, as tire size has a ill effect on the consistency of that test, and tire sizes can vary quite a bit.

I know that it can not be measured that way, but it is a good visual indication of the height. I take some dimensions, almost every corner of the car are 24in from the floor to the fenderwell and more or less 12.4in from the center of the wheel/cv joint to the fenderwell. All those measures are from a OEM old suspension.

And the thing that these cars have in common is the Tokico HP's.... not just sedans, but one of the cars was a US coupe.

It seems Tokico is not welding the spring mount low enough on the strut body, or most likely they could have cut cost and saved money by using a rear strut from another model (such as the EF or integra?) as a universal rear strut for 92-95 civics.

Thinking way back to when I installed mine, I remember having to adjust the rear coil overs much higher on the sleeve than I did the fronts. This goes exactly with what the other posts were saying.

Maybe a set of coil overs is the safe way to go when it comes to springs for Tokico HP's :?

As you know both kit are for the same car but different versions. That is what I need to know.

If your main concern is fine tuning wheel gap, then why not go with a set of coil overs instead of springs?

I understand you pal but the cheapest set of real coilovers are more expensive than a spring/shock combo. And about wheel gap, I am looking for a nice flat sport & functional stance, that is the reason that I ask about suspension version differences between USDM and JDM to compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges.

- Sat Oct 31, 2009 3:39 am #153903 What about something like Skunk2 or GC coil over sleeve kit, where they go over strut of your choice? They run around $250, a set of traditional springs runs what, about $200 for a quality brand?

Maybe create a new thread with the title being exactly what you're looking to figure out "suspension differences between USDM and JDM" and someone may be more likely to chime in. I wish I could tell you a sure answer, but I don't know.

I have the JDM EG, ITR or Integra Type-R Eye-Type Rear LCAs that is great from a point of view but limit me to only few suspension options and also include the problem to match between Civic/Integra JDM/USDM parts.

I have seen searching and the best solution will be to change the rear LCAs for fork-style ones and I could use all the USDM suspension option that exist. Inclusive I found that front JDM and USDM parts for EG/EH 92-95 Civics are the same, then allowing me to select between large quantity of parts available.

Ok but where I live all 92-95 Civics have the same Eye-type rear LCAs and 96-00 rear LCAs are different than EG ones, so which billet rear LCAs for EG do you recommend me? I saw that Funtion7 are awesome and Skunk2 nice too, but what about Megan or Blox ones. My budget is tight but I do not want to buy over-rated parts or cheap dangerous ones. Comments are welcome about this.

- Thu Nov 05, 2009 2:03 am #154849 If you don't want to spend a lot on function 7 or skunk2, then the megan ones or blox will work just fine. They are cheaper brands but people use them with no problems.

It looks like there's 2 different oem right side LCA's for US sedans:
