#86217 I am replacing all the bushings and shocks and axels. So i now have a pile of dirty metal parts on my bench. Should I clean them, paint them, just put them back on as is? What do most people do?
What did they look like when they were new? Just black paint, or would red look terrible? I got the black ES bushings.

#86244 Wire brush them and paint them black. Dont do red

Getting them sandblasted and powdercoated would be cool 8)

#86469 What kind of cleaner do you use? There is 15 years of gunk on these parts. Is there something that will dissolve the grease? :)

#88028 You can use lots of brakecleaner, ovencleaner could help, and if you are going to paint them anyway, you can also remove the gunk with a wirebrush and then use paintstripper. Spray it with a basecoat and finish with a couple of coats of black...I wouldn't do red... :thumb:

#88035 use an engine degreaser such as gunk, let it soak in for 15 mins, then blast it off with a high pressure hose.. (jet wash)

#88097 I used diesel fuel and a bbq grill to burn the crap off. Also wirebrushed when finished. Gave it a the black a cool golden hue from the fuel as well. Then let cool, cleaned making sure paint would stick, then clear coated :thumb:

I agree about painting them black

My KYB AGX's are red though and they don't attract any unwanted attention...

My blacked out taillights do though :D

For stripping paint I used Citrus Strip. It is totally amazing, easy to use, does not stink up the basement, and cut through all kinds of grease and paint and underbody coating. Oh, and new wire wheels on my drill.
