- Thu Jul 07, 2016 10:59 pm #359443 Hey everyone! My passenger side front caliper keeps seizing. I've changed the pads since they were 2 mm thick and on the driver's side they were like 5 mm. The slider pins were seized, the lower one was worse than the upper one. I've cleaned them with the wire brush and lubricated them with ATE brake grease and did the same to those shims. The problem disappeared for a few months but today I've noticed that the pads are still worn unevenly but the difference between them is not that big anymore. The pinzs keep seizing the same way they did. Maybe the caliper bracket is the problem (bent or something)?

If your caliper isn't sticking I would go for your rotors being uneven from the previous brake pad issue. I'd have them turned or replaced.

Question, When was the last time you bled the brakes ? You might have a air in the line that is making the brake rotor apply small pressure to the pad area and the pad and piston are burning up to the point where they melt or seize.
Time to do a flush on the system.

Quick test. Place you car a flat road with the no e-brake on. If you can roll the car smoothly and not having to push really hard to get the car moving . That is your answer.
Second way. Drive the car normally, come home and jack that side of the car up and spin the wheel. There should be no bind. If you are having to apply hard pressure to spin the wheel . Some binding.

- Tue Jul 12, 2016 9:36 am #359465 The brakes were bled last year when I've upgraded from 242 to 262 mm rotors and I will probably bleed them again next month because I'm planning to replace the rear drum pistons (they work fine but they look nasty and I don't want brake failure). The car rolls smoothly, maybe just A BIT hard, but I can't tell. Right now, I've switched the pads from left to right, greased again the slider pins, this time with more care. Everything seems to be in order for now. If the problem persists I will rebuild the calipers and change the rotors sooner than I expected. Thanks!

Hey, I have the same problem with me eh3 92, can you tell me what do you mean by rebuild the caliper?

- Sat May 12, 2018 10:50 pm #6908600 You can buy a kit to be able to replace seals in the calipers. I've never done it. It's not expensive to just replace the calipers. You probably have a small leak in one. More than likely the one that has a thicker pad. But it's best to replace all the calipers at once. When you do get new pads and turn the rotors.
