#115798 Hey guys,

My EG came with some REALLY terrible headlights installed. Like, terrible to the point where I would be more comfortable hanging out the window with a Mag-Lite than trusting these to light my way. And if it's raining, I might as well turn them off. Here's a pic of what's installed:

Image

As you can see, the bulbs are a strong blue, and the shroud in front of the bulb appears to be attached to the lens; funny thing is, you can actually see a shadow of the shroud in the light beam. So if I want to swap these for something else, do I have to pull the whole headlight assembly? Or can the bulb/reflector come out of the housing?

Also, several friends have recommended HID's to help visibility and reduce the power draw, but no specific brands or such. Any good names to look for, or say links to an eBay store with relatively cheap/good quality lights?

Thanks :-D

#115804 It would be easier to just replace the whole headlight, which is easy to take out. just undo the latch holding the bulb and pull that out from the back, then just unbolt the headlights (3 bolts/headlight i believe) and wallah bolt in some new ones. hope that answers your question. i wouldnt really try to replace the insides of an eff'd up headlight, unless someone else on here chimes in with pointers.. :thumb:

#115809 I've had those headlights on my Eg before and I had HIDs, so I really had no problems with lighting. However, yours seem broken maybe that's the reason your light has the shadow of the shroud. Try taking off those headlights and then take them apart to see if it is broken or what, and then go get some HIDs. :thumb:

You had which headlights before - lenses like I have or the HIDExtra's that Chance posted the link for?

And Chance, thanks a lot for those links man. Got a question though - I used Sylvania's selection guide (http://shrunklink.com/cjzp) and selecting "1992 Honda Civic (except sedan)" gave me 9003 for headlamp replacements. 9003 bulbs on HIDExtra are a low HID/hi halogen, and a friend recommended bi-xenon's which is a 9004. Yes, it's 1 off, but will the 9004's slide right into my housings the same as the 9003's? Or is it a better idea to go with the HID/halogen combo?

#116017 I had the headlights posted in the pic in my Coupe for a while. They where okay. Light years better then the Halos that where in it before.

When putting them in I also bought brand new Sylvania's for it. They worked awesome Until I traded them for some Denji's.

I dont recall seeing a Shadow in my headlights. However that was a good while back. Given the fact they are cheap off ebay its probably a manufacturing thing. I cant attest to there quality as I only had them a month or two tops.

If you Put HID's into them you will take care of the issue bye giving mroe light. However With out doing a retrofit the headlights will shoot light all over the place.

I would recommend putting in OEM Headlights, or Denji's. or If you want HID's to do a Retrofit.

I had both your lenses and HIDs..
I think chrono is right, maybe it's a manufacturing error that's happened to your lenses..

#116296 That shroud in the headlight is a glare shield, even your OEM headlight has them, have you tried adjusting the headlights? or even just buying new bulbs? those look like those wanna be "HID" halogen lights, where they just paint them blue

#116434 Jim, I'll definitely take a look at my lenses to make sure nothing is broken or such.

Gorveatt, after looking online, I definitely agree that doing an HID or projector retrofit beats the crap out of simple bulb replacement, but at the moment I'm a bit tight in time and cash. As a poor college kid, I can't really afford to pick up prefabbed retrofits, and I wouldn't want to ruin my current headlights while attempting to do my own retrofit :P

I have not tried adjusting my headlights yet, but I think before I worry about that I'm going to pick up an HIDExtra kit. I was looking on eBay for HIDs and I saw bulbs that look VERY similar to what I have (painted blue haha) for a whopping $2. Something tells me they aren't real HIDs :-D

That said, after reviewing the links Chance posted, does this look like what I would need? http://shrunklink.com/ckhj. I just want to make sure I'm buying the right thing, ya know? The site lists 9003 and H4 separately, while this site (http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2558860) says that H4 = 9003, the stock bulb spec for a 92 Civic.

Thank you all for the information :-)
