Well, times have come to the worse, and I am NOT going to even be able to build a paint booth out of PVC and plastic to paint my project car.
I am going to now have to paint the car outside, in the open.
I've read that it's best to do it in the morning, when the wind isn't blowing and the bugs aren't out as bad, but I'm still going to use a whole bottle of bug spray before I start painting to help prevent any as much as possible.
So I'm going to spray the grass with water so there will be less dust, and to catch the extra paint so it won't have as much overspray, and it will be a single stage paint so 2 layers is about all I'll probably do, outside of a light mist at the end to pop the metallic.
But how would you suggest me doing this? With dew, I'm not sure how long the plastic/tape will stick to the car after it's taped up, and I have to spray primer hopefully Wednesday. It is a whole new color, and I'm hoping that I can just open the doors, hood, hatch, so I don't have to take everything apart because I don't exactly have stands to paint on.
My current plan is to:
Finish sanding/body filler tomorrow and Tuesday, and then tape the car up and spray the primer Wednesday. Then sand down the primer and fix all imperfections, and hopefully the the plastic and tape is still holding up, so Thursday/Friday I'll be able to wake up, clean/prep the paint, and paint the color first thing.
Any tips/suggestions? Again, I do plan on using some bug spray to help get rid of what bugs will be around, and I have 2-3 decent sized fans that I plan on putting around the car to blow the wind away from the car to help keep bugs/breeze/materials from getting on the car.
I know it is not going to be as good as it would be if I had a booth, but it is only a project car, so I'm not going for a show car anyways.
I'm also planning on taking as many pictures as I can, and making a video of me painting so I can make a tutorial for everyone else to get ideas from, and help. So the more I can get now, the better the tutorial will be
