Okay for the diodes, it really depends on what power bulbs you are using, I gave a part code for the 1A ones, but if you want to be extra safe go for one that can take a larger current, I believe they do a 1.5 and 2A so up to you.
For the resistor anything between 1Kohms(1000ohms) and 10k ohms will do, 1/4W resistors are pretty much the standard power spec for resistors you could probably find one in some old broken electronic device yo do the job. Yet again you could get one that could handle more current but really worst case they will just pop and make your car smell a little.
they are soldered together in this configuration
It can be easily added after you have sorted the lights out. You would just have to de-solder the wire going from you high intensity filaments to where you joined it to the brake wire. Then solder both cathode ends of the diodes and one end of the resistor to the wire going to the high intensity filaments. Then solder the other end of one diode to the brake wire, the other to the fog wire you would have left taped up and the other side of the resistor to one of your ground wires.
I would also just like to state that this setup is working for me but if something goes wrong with your car please don't blame me. ie do it at your own risk, but I have been running it for at least 8-9 months now.
