JDMazFuK wrote:I see orange peels..well to get a reallie better shine out of it..after u clear coated it and let it fully dry after days and days..u can water sand it again with the 2000 grit sand paper and make shure u sand it in the same motion as in wax on wax off thing..and also u do not have to sand much..just sand until smooth that the orange peels are gone then time for waxing then buffing and u will get a MUCH better shine But Urs still looks good with out the wax/buff

#59718 hahah i did this on a geniune cf duckill before i notice this diy thread here.

My first layer seemed best. My 2nd and 3rd start to look like crap and the 4th layer made it way worse.

I fixed it by sanding with 2000 grid sandpaper and then buff it shinny. Looks pretty minty now haha

#65439 Nice. I picked up a CF bumper from the junkyard for pennies with this thread in mind. I'm going for it tonight and then doing my hood if it goes well. Thanks!

#65616 whoops I was reading your thread like WTF? Bumper? Oh, I'm dumb.
Its a CF trunk lid. I'm just messing with it to see if I do it right before I do the hood.

#65658 Heres the before after shots. In my defense it was the first time i tried anything like this. I did it outside in NC humidity and it was from a junkyard, but I think its ok. Thanks for the tips!

#137996 I don't have it anymore but it looked the same. Once it was cleared it stayed very well.

if you did 600 grit as your highest. 1.scratches would show up alot more and 2. you wouldnt be sanding long before you got down the carbon fiber and ripped it all up. 2000 grit makes it to where its basically to smooth to even tell it was sanded....of course it'll be dull once you sand it but then when you use rubbing compound it "moves the clear" around to bring out that brilliant shine 8)

i just recleared a hood at work, threw 400 on the DA buzzed it down quick, then a grey scuff pad with scuffstuff, washed, dryed and away you go

you see Zero scratches and if you know your way around a da and/or a piece of sandpaper you wont hit the carbon fiber

just trying to help out
