#47814 Are they REALLY necessary? Mine are virtually non-existent. I cant really afford to pay 60 bucks for just a couple of pieces of plastic. I could fab my own out of fiberglass couldn't I?

also, I live out in the country, and I have 1/8th of a mile long gravel driveway. I CANNOT for the life of me keep my engine bay clean. The firewall always gets covered with the light brown grime.

Any input would be appreciated.

#47835 No they are not necessary. That's why they are an option and not standard on all Honda's. With that said, if you want em then why not buy em. People spend more on crap for their Civic's. It's not a big purchase at all and I assume you want em because of this thread. Yes, you can fab some up but probably not to OEM specs and you always have the chance of them coming out poopy. Try going to a junk yard.

thanks for the help guys. I have a friend in town who's parting out his civic and he's giving them to me for free.

I made a mistake. I was actually referring to the splash guards underneath the bumper/radiator and the one's in the tire well. I'd try and snag some from my friend's ride, but his are tore up and ratty too.

I'm sorry, I misspoke.

#47936 fender guards is the word ur looking for i believe.

its highly recommended u get them, as the fender guards protect from dirt and moisture which cause rust. ive also been told that splashguards help protect sensitive wiring and stuff.

the splashguard under the bumper & radiator isnt really necesary, mine got torn off when it got caught on a tow truck's hook and ive been running without one for almost 2 years now without any problems.

hope this helps.

#48835 I've never even had an engine bay splash guard, here in Holland it rains a lot, and my engine bay has always been fairly clean.
Fender guards are necessary tho, it keeps water and dirt out of your doors (and interior) and chassis, so you should get them ASAP!
Without them you just get everything in sight sandblasted.

Like JLau said; go find them at a junk yard, and see to it they're installed properly.
Last thing you want is them to come undone, be catched by your wheel and rip out like your fender and tear everything apart you can see behind your front wheel...

#48837 You should get them. They also keep dirt out of the doorjamb and hinge area. There are cheaper aftermarket ones on ebay for about $15, but they don't fit quite as perfect as the OEM ones.

#48847 i kept my 6 and 7 pieces intact as it helps reduce engine dirt inside the car. You can always fab up a fiberglass bottom piece but it also will be countereffective as alot of the air that goes under acts a body for heat transfer from the engine bay.

#48855 Don't get non-OEM fender guards, I've got them and they suck!!

They don't fit, the holes for the bolts/clips don't correspond, they look dreadfull, etc etc

5th hand OEM > new aftermarket any time!
