Technical Topics specific to the Hatchback body - NOT where you post pics/build specs of your car.

#100073 Okay, I can NOT decide on which one I prefer. They both cost about the same from what I've looked up, and both seem to be good options. I've never been in a car with a vtec, and my other car is a v8 camaro. I love torque, but I'm not sure if it matters as much in smaller cars as it does in the 3,300+ lb cars.

So I'm going to let you all tell me the pros and cons of each engine. Maybe I'll finally be able to decide on which one I want.

Random information that may help:

-I'll be going to a popular 'party' school this summer for at least 4 years for Criminal Justice, so I'm not sure what type of racing I'll be doing more of.

-I do love torque, but the main thing is just being able to be the fastest after the more basic bolt-ons are done

-If I get enough jobs before I got o school, I may end up putting a small turbo on the car(keeping it no higher than 5 psi)

-more comming when I think of it.

#100497 Have you considered a b20z? One can be had for the same amount as a b18b or b16 and would be quicker out of the 3.

#100521 b18b --ive researched that these have better torque than a b16a the b18b is obd1 though some are obd2 but can be converted to obd1 easier than the b16a obd0 motor can be....youd be better off getting a b18b for price and reliability and power and torque and if you are going to turbo it. so yea im all for the b18b however i love my sohc engines lol

also some side facts if you decide you want to do vtec then id go to i tihnk its in the diy area building a reliable ls/vtec but yea anyhow thats why im for the B18b more than the b16a

The B16a also came in obd1 and 2...so. They are also still an easy swap. With the B16a you get one of the best trannys honda made. I have an LS and it was a way easy swap, but for my daily driver car, I would put in a B16a before going LS again.

#105076 Go with a B18C1 from a 92~00 Integra and look on ebay and get yourself a "frog adapter" from OBD1 to OBD2, the B18C1 is 200hp out the box

The B18B came out of an Acura Integra LS.

#105112 I would swap in a B16 before swapping in an LS(B18A/B). B16s give you more power for the same money, as well as the Best B Series Transmission.

B16's are much quicker then B18a/b's. My Stock D16z6 with i/h/e and some tuning would spank B18 a/b's in my fully loaded 2580lbs Coupe. B18a/b's can be made quick. However B16s are much quicker right from the get go. You get better fuel econemy, Vtec, Better Transmission, etc. I couldn't fathom chosing a B18a/b over a B16 unless you get an awsome deal. Only thing that would cause me to swap one in would be wrecking my Integra LS.

#105446 Yep. Because of the tranny, the B16 is quicker. But if you were to get a B16 tranny and get the engine separately, then either the B18B or B16A would be a toss up. Whatever you want.

#105451 i love my B18b. i know that 16a2's with the same bolt ons cant hang with my ls setup (that i've seen). dont know if my motor is a little freakshow but she holds her own. still rockin the ls tranny though. hopefully that will change by end of summer and along with a couple other little things she'll do 13's.

my swap was done almost 5 years ago now.... if i had to buy an engine now it would definitely be a b18c or if the funds were right a k hybrid. so to answer you i really wouldnt go with either. save up a little more money or something and make it real fast!!!!
