i want to paint the hatch sometime but i want to have a different color. would that be more of a pain and money to do the door jams and all the little stuff to cover the old color? or should i just stick with the original color.

its always going to cost more to repaint a car a different color other than the color it is. Having it repainted white will still look good but if you wanna do something different do it! it's just going to cost more.
I found a good shop by my place..it's funny too because the only way I noticed their shop was because there was a horizon grey coupe outside that had just been repainted..omg clean..but anyway, he is going to charge me $1600 to repaint mine but that's with fixing my quarter panel and pulling out the small dents here and there.

It just depends on how much money you want to spend. White is a clean look though.

got mine resprayed in the original colour whole car minus the roof, all dings and dents sorted, was worth it cost me 1k but if i was to do a full coulour change it would be more like 3-4k. whites a good colour if you like keeping it clean!! as someone else said its cheap to fix aswell.
