hey all.

So after I posted last time regarding a starting issue, I checked the fuel relay and it was new, and all the connections were good.

I checked plug connections etc... and she ran great for about a month or so. the other day.

I went to get fuel. she had a little trouble restarting then the next morning wouldnt start at all. made me late for work :x :x :x

here is a link to a vid I made of me trying to start her.

any help of where to start would be great :D :D

sounds like it's getting fuel, but listen for the pump hum to be sure.
Have you checked each plug wire for spark? pull one out at a time and set it on the valve cover. See if it arcs when you're cranking the ignition. Then if you have good spark, do a compression test. You need spark, fuel, and compression. It sounds like it wants to start so I'm betting you're missing spark. Since it got gradually worse from one day to the next, it may be the ignitor (in distributor) or I even had plug wires work ok one day and like crap the next.

BTW, take note other noobs - this is how you post a problem with your car starting. A vid is worth 972359745 words :thumb:

Okay, teal_dx thanks for the info...

I just went outside and pulled the leads one at a time stuck a screw driver in the lead and cranked the engine over, all 4 sparked okay.

I did a compression test a couple months ago, so it may have changed a little by now maybe. here are the results

#1 - 170

#2 - 182

#3 - 182

#4 - 182

Sorry forgot to mention that the Ignition control module (I.C.M) is in the Distributor...Check your all your ground and power cables make sure there all tight and not corroded....Hope that helps! :)

bump :D

and... picked up a fuel filter which i will throw on today, the old one is pretty rusty and shitty looking. I have a shop manual and with a non starter this is one of the things they suggestedchecking, its obviously been there for a while.....

is there anything on here about making your own code reader?? may shed some light on the issue

So, after a bit of research, I found this site

http://www.askmehelpdesk.com/cars-truck ... 18139.html[url]

So I did the plug test thing and four short flashes, I checked and it says that its a faulty "crank position sensor"

looks like i need a new dizzy!!!

Ahhh yeah, the CPS (or CAS - Crank Angle Sensor).

I had mine go bad on a '92 Nissan Stanza, but it never caused any starting issues. I did, however, have to drive it with both feet (gas and brake, it was automatic) for a week or two because the bad CAS caused the engine to idle really poor and she'd stall at stop signs and such.

Anyways, good to see you figured out what it was :thumb:

i dont think the "CKP" is in the dizzy[idk where it is on hondas]
it should be a magnetic sensor on the tansmission
it should have 2 wires
or it might be a hall effect sensor which has 3wires

okay,

So i picked up a dizzy today and changed it out, as per the manual, then I try and start it, now it seems like it is almost starting!! but not quite catching

so I check the engine code light and now it stays on, according to the above website it means a bad ecu (0 Bad ecu (if cel is on and no code or light stays on))

so now im stuck, I reset the ecu and still the same thing....

have you tried checking the resistance in the plug wires and plugs themselves?

as for the ECU problem, have you reset it since you changed the dizzy? check for +5V on the middle pin of the map sensor is a good way to test the ECU from what i've heard. i would look into testing the ECU as well

any luck so far?
