please critique my website...

- Fri Aug 29, 2008 11:57 pm #67713 I have been working on a new website to use as a portfolio for project car renderings I have made over the years. My goal is to start doing more of these vehicle renderings for more companies.

The site is strictly CSS to make it very browser friendly. Please let me know if anything looks funny on anyone's PC. I also designed the site with google in mind, using descriptive links and alt image tags.

After seeing what a difference it makes to be #1 on google (do a search for "civic eg" heh heh) I'm working to get more of my sites up there in the rankings.

That is a dark theme which really makes the text & images pop and has a rich look.

I also created a home page with a white theme, but not sure if I like it yet: http://projectvehicle.net/index_white.html (only that page is white)

Let me know what you think of the site and enjoy checking out some of my work from the past 5-6 years. I'll be adding more as I get the pages built :)

- Sat Aug 30, 2008 6:09 pm #67758 I actually enjoy the dark version. Personally I think its always easier on the eyes to look at a website without a white background.

Also, the background image. Have you thought of making it a floating image. An image that stays in place throughout the scrolling process.

I think the site looks very promising. Maybe consider putting a bit more advertising on the homepage. This is your site, make it yours.

-Black background: Really easy on the eyes. It creates focus on the body and not the background. The Header and Footer images are ok, but you would benefit from a subtle background image (easily adaptable in a webpage using dreamweaver or any good html editor) take a look at Adobe's website for a good idea. Also black helps to conserve energy used by a screen opposed to using a white background, therefore a great going "green" website.

Navigation: Include pages like About me, Contact etc. which will demonstrate an ever more useful website, potential customers can contact you and read on what you offer to the industry and how as a competitor you are more resourceful and competent.

Also look into Google key-wording, there are many resources online which will explain how to achieve the best results. Also remember, whilst Google is the largest search engine around, other search engines are still used by many so ensure your website is listed in there directory also.

And always keep an interest in your site, just keep improving it until you like it. it's a bit like photoshop, the more layers you add the more effect is applied to the overall image creating something more appealing.

theres so much more, I guess you'd need to talk to me over IM or in person to get everything I can give.

BTW look at how websites such as Apple, Adobe, Microsoft filter their content through different channels. They all have great factors which make their site very good, especially Adobe's navigation, it's attractive yet simple but doesn't let the visitor be distracted from the main body

- Sat Aug 30, 2008 9:33 pm #67776 Also I like the colour scheme you have used, so carry that forward. just noticed that your name leads to your about's page. which was fine, just make it more obvious so people aren't kept guessing where pages are as most people want ease of access to your information

I have built in HTML a lot in the past, but aimed to do this one using CSS for fast loading & editability. My CSS skillz still need some improvment :oops: it seems that a lot of sites are moving that direction away from html :cry:

I tagged the hell out of the images & links in the site so I think that will help in search engines.

One more thing I still want to do is create an actual logo for the site.

It's a tutorial on how to create a cascading style sheet.
It's quite simple to be honest, I've made quite a few.
Depending on what software you use to edit your HTML I can give you information on how to incorporate the CSS into your pages with ease and spread them across all your pages with a few clicks from your mouse.
