I am pumped for you, That will be an Awesome Garage.

Nothing sucks worse then having to work on a car and not having a nice place to work on your car.

#153269 no new updates... They build a few pole barns at a time. When they are waiting for materials to come on or an inspection, they can work on another one.

I actually just got back from Levi's house (the godfather of the amish builders), was talking with him about the radiant heat. I'm going to order it from www.radiantec.com. Unfortunately the tubing he had won't work with radiantec's manifold. So I'll have to buy radiantec's tubing and put the difference in the tubing cost toward the under slab insulation since I won't be using his tubing which was included in the original quote.

With a 12' ceiling, radiant heat is the most effecient way to go. Having the slab heated will also heat anything that is on the slab. Toolboxes, work benches, even if I set a wrench down while working on the car, it will bee nice and toasty when I pick it back up. Radiant costs more initially, but is well worth it IMO to have a garage that is comfortable and usable year round.

I'm ordering their Closed System: http://www.radiantec.com/systems-sources/systems.php
This way I can completely shut it off for 6 or so months out of the year. I would like to get a small 20 gal water heater for usable hot water in the shop.

#153311 At a glance, you won't think that a sick hatch and a mustang is hidden inside. Nice garage!

#153763 For not knowing anything about modern things, or electricity.. they kind of know their cars. one of the guys named Levi was telling me about the car that hit his buddy, and said it was a "Focus car" and knew that my EG was a honda even though there's not a badge anywhere on it. I've never seen another civic hatch out where I live now, so I was impressed. All you see out where live is ford/chevy/dodge for the most part. Lots of trucks.

It will happen... I've got an old tv and a mini fridge waiting, and my folks are giving me their old heavy as hell 32" tv because they are getting a flat screen.
I even have a spare NES to go in the garage 8) I got some cabinets & counter free from gutting an old kitchen... mini bar!

Here's how the layout is going to be, give or take a few things...

I thought about diving the back half to keep the dirty area and the man area separate, but that would really limit the use of the garage in other ways. The building faces west and we have a breeze pretty much every day where we live. (only ran the air twice this year!)
So the plan is to open up the back 8' door and have a nice wind through the shop to carry through dirt, sawdust etc through and out of the back corner. On nice days, I'll roll the table saw, welder etc to the slab outside the 8x8 door and do all my dirty work outside.

I'm keeping the space as wide open as possible because I may be using it as a photography studio shooting vehicles, but not for another year or so. That's why I went with the 12' ceilings.

People say build it as big as you need, then add a little more.
32x40 is big enough for now and the near future. After seeing how big this building is, I can't imagine having gone with a 32x48'. That extra 8' would have been really nice but this size is already looking like a monster behind our house! I'm just going to have to learn how to use my available space better and actually try not to collect as much car parts (or as my wife says, junk) but that's what the attic is for!
