#135221 long story short, im getting married in oct of 2010. the wife knows a few friends that are in a band, they play cover songs of songs that we are into and style of music that we like. we are gonna ask them to play at the wedding, but we don't know how much to pay them. they offered to pay for free. as much as i would like it go the free way, i don think that is right. i dont really know many bands or there payment. i dont know what is decent. they've played abunch of other gigs, but money wasn't an issue, so they have no idea on waht is a good payment.

#135244 Most venues basically pay every band member $20 if you are not very known and $25 if you are.

#135245 You could probably just be like "play for food?"..have them play and you guys feed them..seems fair and you aren't out any money..besides what you're already having to spend on food..and congrats too

#135377 I suggest you take parts of everyones idea. Leave a tip jar up so others can give them tips so they get a little cash, and make sure they have plenty of food and drinks, and beer for after the show, so they are happy.

Then I think you're set. I can only imagine a band that will ask for more will be in a style of music you do NOT want.
