This is random to say the least. But there is something about the k-series engine that us still unsure to me. they are a relitively new thing, ive seen/heard the success stories about them, and them being swapped.
But i've also heard the stories of failures. For the money they are, i really dont understand the point in them. you can get a good 'ol b18c5 for $3500 full swap - axles on hmotorsonline.com where as the k20a/k20a2 is up near 6k said and done.
Is it me or is that a no brainer. get the c5 and dump the 2500 you saved from buying a k20 and youll have a engine that will kill k series all day.
just a though i felt like sharing.
anyone got a opion on these things?

jsut to let you know my K series build was under 4000 that is including the K pro and an A2 block and a K24 block. and 2 6 speed trans mounts axles etc.... so K series is affordable if you build it.

and when you build it. you can obviously build it to specs! or build it to yours!

K's are awesome and the future of Honda Swaps. However Getting a B is still cheaper.

B20vtecs can smash up on the VTEC-E Style K's. The True Performance VTEC(K20A,K20A2,K24a2 Heads) are pretty Quick.

If you should get one or not depends on what you plan on doing. If you just plan on having a Peppy Daily a z6 with i/h/e or a B16 with i/h/e is plenty of fun and gets good fuel economy.

If you want to do Drag Racing a B/F/H/J on spray(or Boost) is the way to go. If you wanna do some circuit Racing then I would say a Built B or a K.

I wanted to go K a while back, Did tons of research. If you want good info on the K Series K20a.org is the place to go.

I you plan on making a K I would personally go with a K24a1 Block(ACCORD,CRV) and a K20a2/K24a2 Head(RSX-S/TSX). That was my plan. If you have the cash a K24a2 is pretty much the ideal stock K. you have performance vtec, and 2.4liters or torque. However you need a different throttle body as its drive by wire.

good and bad points to all the swaps you just need to find out whats right for you if you are thinking more of money aspect then B is defo your best bet imo

I wouldnt call a k series engine relativly new,

They have been out since 2001 so thats nearly 9 years now,

Compared to a b18c from an ITR which came out in late 95 and was dicontinued in 2000 which is only 5 years,

Im only comparing the type r models in this but you see my point,

K series is alot newer technology and takes alot better to mods,
Yes it might cost you a bit more but i think they are worth it from my own personnel experiance.

So if someone offered you a K or a D for free, you would take the D?

Screw the K series, give me a 2JZ any day :thumb:

but that being said, you can build a GSR to have just as much power as a K series. and, have it last twice as long, I know a mechanic at a Honda dealer and he was saying that he vtec lobes on the K24's are wearing out after only 140,000Km's

Bit pointless saying you can builld this and that, because you can also build a k series engine aswell, and it will make more power and torque than a b series all day long.

i think the K series is a solid swap and if they are built right, they scream...

but i think there is still a lot of support for the B series out there while people are just starting to realize the K's are up and coming...pretty soon K's will be just like B's with popularity of swaps

Honestly the K series hasn't been out all that long, and from what i've been hearing aren't nearly as reliable as the B series, I mean why come out with a completely new motor after only 4 years? (R18) :? yeah i know it's only for the Civic's thus far, but they could have just thrown in the K20 in there rather then designing a completely new motor.

To Replace the phased out D Series, Like the K's replaced the B Series. The K Series are hondas performance engines.
Honda didn't put B's in all of the civics, Why would they put in K's?

The New Integras(except in america where they are not sold anymore) have K's, Just like the Integras of Old had B's.
