- Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:46 am #154451 I currenlty live in a condo that has cable thru comcast. for some reason the cable is on (basic)..they forgot to turn it off when the previous people moved or the building is all spliced from one source and they cant interrupt service w/o the whole building being cut off. so can they cut the signal off if I sign up for the cable internet only package? can they modify what kind of signal is sent? if they do can I splice into my neighbors cable and then run the two signals (cable from neighbor and my incoming cable internet line) into a diplexer and run one singal cable to the house so i could keep cable and internet wired through the whole house?

- Tue Nov 03, 2009 1:15 pm #154503 as for the tv odds are they forgot to cut it off. the likely hood of everyone in the building being tied together is slim for nobody would have to pay for anything cause ur just robbing off one person. my unkle works for comcast. yes it is a modified signal that they send to u. when u call them a tech will come out and do a line check go to the pole tap into the signal to ur room and give u internet. then run a "ohm" test on the line to make sure u wires in home can stand both services and then he will set a internet modem. i think the modem lease fee is like 3 bucks a month i have not got my bill in front of me but its not that much. that about sums it up hope this helps u

- Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:38 pm #154518 Yeah I had internet threw them before but I was working then paying for premium shit but even when I wanted internet I just whent and picked up a modem and some cat 5. came back home and hooked the shit up. they never installed it. so lets say if my cable doesnt work when I get internet. can I send another cable signal to the house?

- Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:42 pm #154521 the building is not wired as a whole. there will be one main feed, then split out to each apt. they put filters on each line for each type of service. a bigger filter for just internet taped differently, up here in canada, they have red stripes around the filter. to get cable also having internet you just take off the filter, and using a high freq. spliter, after the splitter goes to your cable modem and the other to the tv. you will have to find where the main splitter is, because that is where it will be done. you also need the special tool for it. which i happen to have.

what type of condo is it? like an apt style or everyone is connected basically like a house.

if it is house style then there should be a box outside somewhere. if not, then your pretty much fucked if you can't find the cable room.

Can anyone tell me about N wifi...Is it faster and do i need the zN wireless card on my computer too...basically want to hook up ps3, xbox 360, and pc

- Tue Nov 03, 2009 4:52 pm #154553 well if you dont have an ISP setup...even with a cable modem you wont get internet. Its a different signal even though they come through the smae coaxial cable. Its like throwing a dsl line into a phone. You can get phone service, but if you dont have internet service you wont get shit. Buildings like that have a central wiring setup...so even though you have some serivices it is basic and you will need to get you own shit for everything to work properly. Good luck
