#285014 Why do you choose to build or work on a Honda, Acura, or other import?

We all have this in common but I bet we all have different reasons. I would like to hear them all.

Mine- because there is nothing better than driving a FWD car thru a turn or even in straight line faster than that guy that thinks his v8 is the best. Yes there are other faster cars out there but there is something that has always drawn me back to my civic. A friend once said to me you wouldn't build or own anything but a Honda and he's not lying. I will drive anything given the chance too, but I would never buy that car unless it was something that was created by Honda.

Lets hear it why do you?

#285021 Dayum what a question..

Part of it has to do with the shit talking everyone does about Honda's
and part of it is what u said.. civic can put v8's in there place
and they look good too

#285027 Cheap cars, cheap parts, and good gas milage. Its one thing to beat v8's, its another to beat them and get better mpg at the same time

#285031 since no one else will have the stones to say it.

i do it partially because it's deemed popular. i mean, come one, half of us probably wouldn't do it if we didn't have friends and family that are into it to.

without the popularity, there wouldn't be nearly as many aftermarket parts, etc.

i also do it because it's a simple to get started with. i, myself, am still new to builds and fab.. so it only makes sense to start with a very basic chassis/motor/trans setup. and honda makes some of the most cut-and-dry setups.

there's more to it, but idk how to explain myself further.

#285035 here comes a long story lol

I never liked hondas till I got my first one for $150 bucks... 94 dx hatch with no title... it took a beating
Image
I beat on it stripped it down and put 70 miles of redlining, mudbogging, and burnouts on the old D15B7 and it took it all in stride. I thought man these things are fun and so easy to work on I'd love to have a beater like this for on the streets. but I could never come across a cheap one.

then I got my coupe 2 years ago with the intentions of beating on it, getting good gas milage, and carrying 2 extra tires around in the trunk incase I blow 2 doing burnouts in parking lots lol

but it ended up being my only vehicle for some time so I had to take care of it and make sure it lasted me for awhile. but I was getting 35+mpg and it was a decent start for a car so I wasnt worried about not beating it to death.

then I started looking around on the web(found this site  ) and I saw whatever body was doing with hondas... sooo many people fallow everyone else and build the same lookin cars all the time. I realized how much aftermarket support EGs and Hondas in gerneral have so I set out to build a daily driver that gets good mpgs, is easy as hell to work on, has great craigslist support lol, and is EXACTLY how I want it to be. not built for someone else to like, just for me. I wanted to have a car that I love to drive and that stands out from the crowds of JDM fanboys and all the kids with the fartcans, angled stickers, and the attitude that hes got a badass stock civic just cause its a civic.

I drive my car every day, get 40+mpg, love working on it, and even though its far from perfect or "clean" I love it and will take it to my grave before i sell it to anyone.

#285091 ok i have a long story here so sorry in advance:

well it was 2005 and i was a senior and at the time i didnt have a car, but a lot of my friends did. I was drawn in by my friends eg hatch called," sky". Even before that i liked hondas and i appreciated there body lines. Anyway, long story short is my grandparents agreed that if i graduate they will buy me a car and so i graduated and they told me my spending limit was $10,000 and we went car shopping and i only had a few days to decide what i wanted since my grandparents were from out of town. So the last day we went car shopping and the car i decided on was a red 1994 honda civic coupe dx. It was rather weird because it had ac in it and I knew the dx were really one of the bottom models and it was also a 5 speed. I had never really driven a manual car before that besides a old school truck. That was my first car and i will always remember it since i spent so much money building it to my liking and swapping motors. Now i own a 92 eg si hatch which took me forever to find and i continue to build and learn along the way. Because of the crap that people talk about hondas and how they are grocery getter's and this and that and then the look on there face when you take it to the track and you blow past a kid in a mustang or v-8 who thinks he's hot sh*t because his car is worth more then mine when really buddy i only spent half or less to get my car where it is and i still get good gas mileage, cheap parts, cheap insurance, and all the after market support.

#285141 Hell, there's people that have switched to honda/four bangers because they were bored with V8's, if that doesn't say something I don't know what does. :)

I like my civic because it's so easy to make it "yours", you put a drop on it even with steelies and a haggard ass body and it still looks good, plus they're one of the few cars that rattle canning is considered a legit paint job. :D

#285227 I picked a civic overall because first off, my family had always had imports when i was growing up. I knew the reliability of having a Japanese made car was amazing.

We had Toyota Tercel (lol) super reliable, awesome family car at the time. Then we traded for a 2000 Pontiac Montana... :o It was absolutely awful. It had less than 100K before it was giving us so many problems. Belts went, tranny went, brakes, suspension was shot. Of course, none of these problems happened before we bought it. It was just an awful van. From that point on, i was like..11 years old at the time, and i swore off Domestic made cars forever.

My dad ended up buying a 97 EK hatch, and thats when it started. The Fast and the Furious was in its prime, and everyone was adding "5UP3R 51CK" Body kits to their cars, loud exhausts, flashy rims, loud music. My dad was no exception to it. Mind you, we didn't have the money at the time to slap on a huge body kit, so he just bulit his car with what he had.

Image

15 inch FRD rims, no name fogs, REAR ANTENNA (fake of course) Bug guard, Short ram on the stock DX engine. 187K on a 97. Bought in 01.

From then on, We just started to bond over the cars, i remember going on drives with him in the front seat, pointing out all the sick cars id see on the road, 240's, integras, civics.

He ended up selling the civic back in 03 i believe. He was crushed. He didn't end up getting a car until 08. Which is his EG that he has now. I followed in his footsteps and bought mine in September and we're building our cars together. Trying to get deals off of parts we buy because we buy 2 sets :hehe:

I guess having a civic has always just been a way my dad and I can always bond. It's a nice relationship to have since most Sons and Dads dont generally see eye to eye when their my age. I'm 19, he's 41 almost 42. We tend to butt heads alot, but no matter what, we always go to the Junkers together and scope out parts for either mine or his civic, sometimes both.

Thats why I picked a Civic.
