letter from my insurance ... bad news for customized cars

Recently my insurance company changed their policy. Now in a loss, only $1000 worth of "customized" parts is covered.
They gave a list of things that are considered to be custom and it covered everything from wheels, exhaust, suspension stuff to dvd player, seats, even aftermarket paint jobs.

A few months ago when I put my civic on insurance their policy was "be able to produce a receipt showing the value of the modification(s)" and it would be covered in a loss.

I have all my vehicles & home with Farmers Insurance, so I don't think I'm going to change companies because I get a great rate. But if my civic gets stolen, I'm shit outta luck :( I'm seriously considering LoJack now.

What is your insurance companie's policy on customized vehicles? :?

Insurance in the UK is a joke. You guys in the US get shit loads of benefits. My insurance costs me £200 a month. That's for what is known as Third Party, Fire and Theft. These are the only three things I'm covered on. Insurers in the UK don't give us anything if our cars are modified. If you take out insurance, you'll have to pay extra for all the modifications you have on your car, on top of the insurance itself. If you dont and you drive around in a modified car, you are liable to have your insurance void in an accident.

In the hole, insurance is day light robery IMO.

my insurance is tight..I pay $104 a month for full coverage. I was with farmers and they were killing me $115 for just liability..yeah screw that. My friend is a broker for progressive so he gave me all the discounts and now only pay $104 for full coverage instead of $350 that farmers was going to charge me. Anyway, I had asked him if I my car happened to get stolen if my rims would be covered and he said yeah and my weds are well...pricey..so yeah I love my insurance..out here in CALI it's "west cost insurance" but it's just a branch off progressive.

My dad pays £126 for the year to insure his 2.0 Peugeot 307

I pay £200 a month for my 1.6 Honda Civic

Just because I'm 19. What a fucking load of shit. Insurance is a fucking scam in the UK.

Wow, I pay $11 a month for liability for my civic. No real mods yet, but my insurance company is great about mods. I wrecked a 240sx with some mods and they gave me a crap ton of money for it! I have USAA, which not everyone can get. :\
