Can you adjust the timing on a d15b by moving the dist.

- Wed Jan 27, 2010 10:40 pm #171571 I just installed a d15b in my car to replace a blown d16z6. Had to replace the distributer on the d15 once the car shut off out of no where. I used the one from the z6 just to see if it was the problem. It started right up and runs good now. It seems to be a little less powerful then i hoped. I know the d15 is less powerful then the z6 but I was wandering if the distributer could be turned to retard or advance the timing causing it to be a little less powerful. Maybe i didnt set it exactly right. Mounting holes are slotted which is why im thinking this is a possibility.

- Thu Jan 28, 2010 1:52 am #171590 i got a d16 in my car and it shut off in the middle of drive and i dont know what happen, i have checked the sark and all 4 are good, there is fule comeing to the fuel injectors, and the car turns over with no problem, is there a chance my distributor is timed wrong because i know my timeing belt and timing of the cylenders are good.

- Thu Jan 28, 2010 2:39 am #171605 From what i understand my car atleast and maybe yours use a capacitor pack or something of that effect under the dist cap instead of an external coil like most cars. This is what fails and can cause weak spark or none at all. There are a few options if this is the problem that I have come across. You can either get a new distributer for around 150 or get a kit that adds an external coil and comes with cap rotor and coil wire. I luckily had the spare distributer to put in so I don't know which is the better alternative. My civic had 205000 miles on stock distributer so i would think it may be the way to go. Chime in if anyone knows better.

- Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:23 am #171627 I recommend you get a timing gun to check your timing. You can advance by rotating the dizzy counter clockwise, but you won't really have any way to know if it is too much/not enough. There could be many reasons that the new motor doesn't feel as powerful.

- Thu Jan 28, 2010 4:28 am #171630 Thanks. This is the only thing i changed myself that would cause it to be less powerfull as far i can think. Everything else on the car is stock 94 civic ex except long block essentially.
