#74580 So i was putting my bottom back together. Put new rings on the pistons, de-glazed/honed the cylinders and got the pistons and rods in. I bolted the end caps back together on the rods but one of it has a bit of play. Its a lil loose as I can wiggle it and it makes the same sound that I noticed when it spun a bearing. These are new rod bearings that I put in. The end caps are matched to the rods so theyre not mixed up. This was the same one that spun the bearing. The top sits on the journal, i think thats what its called, ok so im thinkin it may be the end cap. Keep in mind that Im doin this while the block is in the car. Any thoughts?

p.s. I is newb

#74582 if you spun a rod bearing, the rod is probably not usable anymore.
crank may also be damaged.
you should 'mic' the rod journal on the crank to see if it is still within tolorance.
i had to get a new crank for my rebuild.

#74586 the rod looks ok, its not broken or anything. Its just that when I was taking it apart, the bearings was gone on it, so I figured it was a spun rod bearing. As for tools, I dont have much other than the general tools so I may not be able to do much for measuring. Is there any chance I can use an oversized bearing for this one rod?

#74596 Im assuming the section where the rod bolts on to, yes I did look at the journals when I took it out, It had the chrome-like finish to it with a lil dirty oil on it and , i know i prolly shouldve have, but I rubbed my finger around on it too to feel for any scratches which there werent, it was smooth all around so i figured there wasnt much damage. I did wipe it clean afterwards and before putting the new bearings on. And with the oversized bearing on just that one rod, would it drastically affect the engine? Would it be worth a shot to swap it with one good rod from the junk yard with the new bearing?

Thanks for all the thoughts guys!

UPDATE: ended up bringin it to the shop and got a Y8 swapped in for $800 (motor + labor) now she chirps when i shift to 2nd :P
