- Thu Sep 17, 2009 11:32 pm #144643 i tried to get it smogged yesterday and i got a real high hc readings i think ca state highest was 15mph 92 and my car ran a 333 and 25mph max 57 it read 146... what do you think could be causing it to read this high??? thanks im thinking i need a new catalytic converter, but is that all im gonna need cuz all the other reading were fine, like no and the co. its got 212,000 miles on it and i think its the orginal cat. just changed the air filter, oil,oil filter, spark plugs and the wires. the dist. cap and rotor look new.

- Fri Sep 18, 2009 2:53 am #144670 Mine also didn't pass smog 2 times!! The smog tech said it was my DC header that wasn't getting my cat hot enough!! I have a high flow on there too! I put my stock header back on and a differnt cat to be on the safe side!! It passed after that like nothin!! Im in Cali too and feel the pain!! Hope u get it to pass!!

- Fri Sep 18, 2009 3:35 pm #144749 i passed smog with my DC header. (carb leagal) and with my cheapo ebay header too. (i have 2 civics that need to be smogged EVERY year)
you need to find a smog guy that's not an dumbass, and doesn't get satisfaction from seeing you fail.

easiset way to pass smog if your Z6 is stock is to use a P06 ecu (don't need vtec for smog test, and P28's run rich) and retard the timing a couple of degrees. not to much, if you retard more than four they are supposed to fail you, that's one thing they check.
also, do the 25mph in 3rd gear, not 2nd.

also there is a CA state program where they get you the parts to bring you car up to requirement. your smog tecnician should have told you about this program.
although, now that the state is broke, it may not be availible anymore.
