#170694 Hello everyone, is there anyone here from california and have a legal engine swap on your civic??? (example 1.5L SOHC been replaced with 1.6L DOHC VTEC and able to be smog tested and passed)

i've been looking for answer for so long, and dont get any proper answer.

i actually have many questions, but i dont know if i should write it up right now or just wait for response first.

Thanks :)

#170718 not from cali but from what i have read is the engine swap has to be the same or newer obd and smog legal cali i'm guessing you need all the factory piping pretty much ie header cat and a regular style muffler. if i'm wrong i will probably get corrected!

#170929 i see, beside piping, how about the computer, the sensors, and the rest of wiring stuff? since we were swapping the engine, is it really important or not if we don't replace all the sensors to the one that fit the engine that we swapped?

#170974 Usually you would want to keep all the original ecu and sensors that came with the motor besides replacing the sensors with bran new ones. The wiring same thing try and keep as much stock. 1.5 non to 1.6 vtec you should only need to wire in vtec which is two wires to the ecu.

#171126 in California, legally putting a b16 in your 92-95 civic means you have to get it 'bar'ed.
You can BAR a jdm engine as long as it has a domestic equivalent such as the ODB1 B16 94-95 Del Sol VTEC, B16A3.
you need to use the USDM ecu, intake manifold, and distributor.
it will also need to pass smog.

#171869 I see. Thanks for the info, d-mon. :D

Now, another one. If you want to put a K20 series VTEC on your '95 or older civic (i just saw it on magazines). I just wondering, beside engine, ecu, and transmission, what else we need to change?
And, Its impossible to smog this car, right?
