#35466 I'v noticed that my VTEC doesnt kick in when the motor is cold in the mornings, Sometimes I get lazy to walk outside 3-4 mins earlier to let it warm up, So I just get in and take off. I don't know if this is just in first and second gear or what. Also why in general wouldn't it engage while the motor isnt at normal operating temp?

#35467 Your oil needs to be warm.

And really......you should be babying your motor when its cold.

#35471 I know i really couldnt help it, as I was rolling out GS-R pulled up next to me, haha.

I mean if I don't completly let it warm up, ill atleast let it sit for 30-40 seconds to get the oil flowing thru before I leave

#35482 if not at the correct temp. it will not engage and definetly let it warm up for more then seconds at least a few minutes

#35501 It's not boosted, motor completly stock... No need to sit there and let it warm up that much, all you really want is just to get your oil flowing through the motor...

#35517 you should wait until it is warm to beat on it. all the moving parts expand ever so slightly when warmed to operating temperature, reducing the tolerances to the correct amount. too loose tolerances = extra play of moving parts = shorter engine life. Waiting a minute or 2 is alot better than none at all, but I always wait till the needle is in the middle of the temp gauge before I give it some vtec.

#35560 What about like if your just driving it, should you still wait for it to pretty much get to normal operating temp??

Cuz I hear both, Some say wait til your at normal opertin temp b4 u even move your car, Some say it makes no diffrence :? , Cuz I know that much, iv only stepped on it like once or twice when it wasnt at normal op temp..... Thats plain common sence to wait for that haha

Until mines warmed up properly i dont go over 3k

#35587 the ecu has to read a certian engine temp before it will let vtec engage....Doesn't it?

True, 60 degrees celcius.

I never do more than 2,5/3k rpm when its cold....and i never kick it in high revs before my oil temp is at 90 degrees celcius!

If you want youre engine to life long, then install a oil temp meter and USE IT! a honda loves to be kicked in to high revs but never when the oil isnt at the correct temp

#35595 I know, i never really do, and I also keep it under 3K rpm 90% of the time..
Iv only gunned it to like 6k once when it was like 2mm up (the gauge)
I would never bearly turn it on and gun it...

I baby my lil b16 she gets synthetic oil every like 2000 - 2500 miles and when daily driving bearly take it to 3k rpm.. But when gs-r's roll up 8200 RPM here we come :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:
