So I fixed the screw problem and finished changing out my thermostat. Now I have a coolant leak in the hose from the block to the firewall. Does anyone know what that's for? Also the thing from the firewall feels a little oval instead of round. How would you clamp a hose to something like that. The screwtype hose clamp doesnt seem to be working too well.

Try using an oem clamp, they are tight. but it sounds like you may have crushed the round tube a little and now it is oval. maybe try bending it round again so it will seal better.

Those hoses go to your heater core.
