engine recommendations?????

so i have narrowed my engine swap motors down to a few choices.

1. B16A SIR block
2. H22 Type S block
3. D15B block

All of these blocks are in my price range and i want to beef them up before I grab a head and put it in my car. This car will not be my DD so I have time and do not have to worry about gas economy. I would like to get in the 200-250 whp range as quick as I can and would boost the motor when I could afford it.

Any suggestions or recommendations for an engine are gladly welcomed :thumb:

I am a complete noobie so part suggestions for an engine, websites, etc. are all welcome.

Thanks a bunch :D

Looking at the engine specs threads stickied at the top of each engine section of the forum, you can see that the H22 will get you to your HP goal right out of the box. So you don't really even need to start with just the block. You could reach those #'s with a D series, but not without boost or nitrous. Since you don't care about fuel economy, and have the funds, I'd go with one of your first 2 choices. Either one will be fun to drive and easily reach your goal before you boost it. The B16A is going to take a little more $$ to get you to your goal without boost than the H22.

Moving this to Engine General since it is not just about D series

Haha. Thanks teal I wasn't sure where to put this.

I have heard that with the H22 the engine has to lean forward a little bit because it is a little bigger and from what I hear 40-60lbs heavier. Does that cause any problems with how it drives?? Also what kind of transmission would work for the H... I have heard something about an H2B kit but am not sure how it works...

H is heavier, but not enough to complain about as it puts out more power to counter the weight. As for the tranny I would suggest the H2B kit just so you have a damn good tranny and dont have to hack into your hatch to run the cables and crap for the H tranny.

My personal preference would be the B16a swap. its the easiest to do . Just like putting another D in. Dont have to cut anything, and you dont have to grab a converion kit to run the tranny. All motor Bs have put out 200-250 for a while now. I have seen good numbers out of a pretty much stock B16a. But sense you will do the block and the head seperate, it will be easier for you to get your power goals. B series stuff is all over the place.

I can never understand anyone who would put a D in the same list with a B, H, K, or F.

You run a D cuz they're cheap, common, you already have one, you have modest power goals, you want an engine that's easy to work on, and you want better fuel economy. If you have the money to even put a B or H on your list, you shouldn't even consider a D.

How about the F22?

Well the D is cheap and is basically the only reason I considered it.

I have not done much research on the F22 engine so that is why I haven't considered it. I had thought that it was a less common swap.

Honestly, I am a complete civic noob
