#78872 well, about a month ago now, some old bitch ran a stop sign and slammed into the side of my eg :( i got a check from the insurance for $2400 :thumb: however, instead of fixin my eg back to normal, i decided to drop it into my project car, 91 base model hatch. anyways, im not to advanced in the engine swap department, and was wonderin if it would make sense at all to drop the d16z6 into my hatch. i believe the engine in there now is a d15 and is a non-vtec. i would love to do a B series swap, but i have a wide body kit for the ef, and it is in primer right now, so after paint and the kit, i dont think i'll be near the amount needed to do a B series swap. anyone with insight to my position, what u would do if u were me, is appreciated.

#78891 fixing my eg would cost approx $2600, with nothing invested in the engine or elsewhere, y would i put $2700 into a car i got for $2800. especially when i can turn around and sell it for $1000 in a second. i'm definetly not fixing the eg. and plan to get a prelude b4 another civic, im ready for something different. to the best of my knowledge the base models r 1.5 dpfi.

#78929 well if anything i would do a obd1 conversion to your ef hatchy since a side impact would probaly of hurt the frame.....and then you dont have to worry about mpfi and stuff liek that just swap everything wire harness interior wire harness(on that one you may need to make some adjustments) and yea thats pretty much it...depending on how your wireing skills are it will be probaly a 3 outa 5 on my scale being that its gonna take some work but as long as you take it slow you will be all right and heck you do the obd-1 swap and you dont have to worry about having to get your check engine light codes from the ecu light anymore and its and upgrade which means depending on how you did it it will probaly be better 4 u in the long run then no messy dpfi to mpfi swaps and if your car was ex then you dont hav to pin vtec either

but thats just my opinion on the matter

#79003 well I am saying do the Z6 swap but it might be a little easier if you also did a obd swap to convert it over to obd1 and then you wont have to do the mpfi conversion which tends to be a headace exspecially if you have to wire up vtec and you wont have to get a adapter for the ecu either.....

#79031 wouldnt i want to do the obd1 and the mpfi? im having trouble finding write-ups on these things.

#79054 not to many people upgrade the ef's to obd1 but if you look at the early euro eg's they have obd-0 and are dpfi probaly and easier way to find a write up its pretty much exactly the same i do remmber someone or a couple of people on this forum doing such a thing to their eg hatch

and when you convert to obd1 you end up becomming mpfi but without all the resistor boxes and wiring headaces.....since obd1 is only mpfi.....

but ill see fi i can find some write-ups tomarrow for ya and get back to you with the links its pretty straightforward just some splicing is needed to keep your cluster and some other things i think

pretty much what youll need is
-obd1 engine harness
-obd1 interior harness the whole thingon the firewall
-might be a good time to upgrade to a eg climate control lol but yea not really needed

-obd0 interior harness for spare plugs

plugs needed that i can think of off the bat
-cluster plugs
-climate control
-blower not sure on that one
-And there maybe some others but yea if you wanted to keep your fuse box youd have to get the plugs for that and stuff.....

but ill keep an eye out for some obd0-obd1 upgrades for you

#79293 The dizzy as explained in this post needs to be obd1 due to a different amount of teeth another reason its good to keep the obd1 engine harness attatched and to convert the entire car to work with obd1

http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2400356

Its definately a good idea to convert to obd1 just because of the fact that well a)you have a parts car therefore all the parts youll need are there) and b) once converted to obd1 you wont need to hassle with the mpfi swap, using the ecu harness, converting needed parts to work with obd0 components and stuff like that.....

http://hondaswap.com/hybrid-ed-ef-da/my ... ion-79063/

heres a hybrid type style but yea i think it would be also a heck of alot cleaner with the obd-1 set-up and a little easier to work on plus the clips are alot more friendlier to unhooking themselves but yea heres another website i mean if you dont choose to do the complete obd1 swap this explains how to do both but yea if you dont then just use jumper harnesses and ecu obd0-obd1 connecter

#79294 might have a prob with speed sensor if you use hydro tranny
User avatar
By melloball
#79316 just to confirm, the eg has an automatic hydro tranny, and the ef has a cable 4speed. a few questions, i obviusly want to buy as little as possible, want the 91 to remain manual, and gain some hp, can i use the stock ef tranny, or does it have to be a 95 tranny? and would it be better to use an si 5 speed?

#79324 you can use the stock transmition from your ef of coarse an si trans would be better.....but yea you dont have to use any of the 92-95 transmitions....and if your eg was auto you will need to switch the flywheel onto the motor your swapping in since auto and 5spd have different flywheels...

Also I do not think you would have a problem with the speed sensor as i said it would be best to keep the stock cluster and just wire it into the obd1 harness....exspecially since I do beleive your car being a ef has a cable speed sensor instead of electronic.

but yea any D trans will bolt up to any D motor (there are some exceptoins) so yea your stocker ef trans will work. And yea

The si trans will be better in gas mileage i do beleive and i do think its geared a little bit better.
