crankshaft pulley blew off.

i was wondering whether or not it would be sensible to swap the D15 i have to a B16. the crankshaft pulley ripped off while i was driving and im not sure if its as simple as just replacing it. if the motor has more damage than i can see, im going to need a new motor anyway right? but im just concerned about the cost of swapping the new motor vs. fixing the one i have now.

any opinions?

well ask your self this are you in the future going to do a B series swap?....
and before you throw any money at anything. how did it rip off?

most likely if would have messed up that bolt on that holds the crank pulley. youd end up having to get another crank. which in the end might be the cheaper alternative.

but then again you can always throw that money for that B16. you may spend more getting the stuff needed like the motor, trans, linkage, ecu, and if you have to a harness.

^exactly

but yea please tell us how it came off if it popped off from the whole deal with the pully itself and the bolt just broke you will probaly only need that bolt since the pulley if im thinking in the right terms here only allows for the p/s a/c and alternator to run the timing belt is underneath that cover however if you didnt hav ethe cover on and that happened im gonna say that motor is done just because it mgiht of hit the timing belt and or the block depending on what speed you where traveling at since thats alotta force acting on that pully but yea if you get pics might help just saying....

the crank pulley is on the outside of the timing belt cover, so I don't think it would have messed up the timing belt unless he was driving without the lower piece of the timing belt cover on. The only belts on the crank pulley are alternator, power steering and AC if his car had it.

Just check to see if the end of the crank is damaged at all from the crank pulley flopping around on it when it was loose before it fell off.

The crank pulley can come loose from not torquing the bolt right OR from forgetting to install the Woodruff Key when putting the pulley back on.

If the crank is good, then buy a pulley & bolt and Woodruff Key and you're good to go :thumb:

it looks like the pulley ripped off. like the ripped metal kind of look. and the bolt is gone. im pretty sure the previous owner screwed something up and neglected to say anything. id rather fix the pulley and sell the car because my budget isnt fitting for a B-swap...
