#95299 Ok so this is probaly like my fifth time thinking about this before posting it and im still a little iffy i mean today my mom just showed me what im getting back in taxes and now its making me rethink my whole D16z6 turbo build.

First off i just sold my obd0 dohc ZC for around 300 just so it wasnt sitting around taking space. If it was just this probaly would be thinking about just sticking with the turbo Z6 but now i come to find out im getting around 5-600 $ back in taxes now to me that is a lot of money lol so i am sorta rethinking my first plan since I now have a fair amount of money i may be able to save up some more and get a whole motor. though not completely convinced if i should or not....I also have a bunch of parts such as the skunk 2 intake manifold for the d16 that i could sell to add to the amount i have....

As of right now i really am completely unsure of which way i should go with spending the money I know if i start this motor build im going to finish it no matter what but that little voice in my head keeps me thinking about a bseries but the other voice is saying dont since trannies are hard to get and i knwo more about the d series....

What do you guys think? Im so twisted around by the voices lol

#95302 Are you going to have a built bottom end? If so I say stick to the z6 turbo idea. Z6 I think would put out more power boosted than a b series with minor mods.....my 2 cents

#95305 yea if i didnt get a b then most of the money would go toward aftermaket rods and im definately leaning towards vitaras

#95311 Get a b-series swap, and save for a turbo kit.

With as much as i put into my d16 i could be making ALOT more power.
Most b-series STOCK with a turbo kit has just as much potential as a built D-series.

I've seen fully built d16's only make 350hp, and completly stock b-series make 360-400+hp

I've been there, i've spent a LOT of money on my z6. If i could go back, i would build a B-series. Granted my set up will be in the high 500hp range, so i didn't pinch pennies on anything. but the same amount would have gotten me in the high 750-800 range with a b-series.

#95324 Yea im also thinking about the whole tuning thing since i dont know much about it nor do i know anywhere where there is a dyno plus like you said teal some parts end up costing more in the end.

Im just thinking if i can get my hands on my old GSR trans i traded for the dohc for cheap i might rebuild that and go with a b18 ls for now since im sure i can find that motor anywhere....and i might end up haveing money left over to upgrade things

#95326 If you were to do an ls swap, those things are great for boost. My friend has been running 9psi daily for two years. but he's un-tuned. just on a base map from pherable.net

#95337 I was also thinking on what i could get my hands on lets say in the next couple of weeks when i do get my check. i should be able to get a ls pretty easily compared to its vtec counterparts plus like you said if i did end up going boost after college of coarse it would be the motor to do it.

Why is that? Phearable is a great web site. and John Vega is good at tuning.

The only local tuner we have around here charges about $600 to tune with neptune. the price goes up if you want hondata cause he won't touch it unless it's s300. Not everyone is made of money. people do what they gotta do to get by.

Because most basemaps are just to get your car started to look for leaks and to start the tuning process. No two identical setups will react the same to the same tune. I've used plenty of xenocron base maps to get cars started... that was shortly followed by a bunch of tip-ins and runs with a wideband and freelog.

I tried a shitload of maps on my setup. Most were running pig rich, others would spike between rich and lean.

Back to the OPs question:
It's your money do what makes you happy. After my stock turbo D said F U, I found a crackhead deal on a H22 swap :-p
