Topics that apply to all 92-95 civics

#36786 Hey everyone,

This is my first so I first want to say Hi to everyone. I just picked up a '95 Civic Sedan as my daily driver. I have owned many Honda's and now own 2. I look forward to being a member on this board.

I need to know about the stock stereo harness

I bought the car from a dealer, the previous owner had an aftermarket stereo and rather than using a harness adapter the stock stereo harness was all spliced and taped up. The aftermarket cd player has stopped working and it seems the spliced wires are effecting some of the climate control backlighting also. When I touch or re-organize the spliced wires the climate control backlighting may go out.

To solve this problem, I was thinking the best way would be to get the whole harness, however I am trying to figure out where the connections of this harness are so I can find it at a junk yard. I'd assume this would be really pricey through Honda, right?

I looked in the Helms, but I couldn't quite find what I was looking for.

Sorry for the long post, thanks in advance.

#36788 its easier to go to the junker and pull it your self pull the dash and look at the harness.. the harness you need will be seperate from the main harness which is great because you dont have to replace the whole thing it just connects to the gauge cluster clock and i think climate, probably like 5-15 bucks from the junker

#36797 Yea, thats what I plan on doing at this point. I was just thinking if there is some way to know exactly what it connects to and where its located, so that I can easily find it, since many of the cars out there look quite different after hitting the junker.

Also, the harness would probably be the same for the coupe and hatchback too, i assume?

#36800 I had the same problem when I first got my EG. Before you spend a lot of time putting a whole new dash harness. Buy the stereo harness and wire it up using female connectors or shrink wrap.

I am a little confused at what your saying. Are you saying I should take the harness from the head unit I will be using and solder the wires together rather than purchasing a new dash harness?

#36906 If I get the harness should I just solder it to my dash harness then?

#36908 Just use connectors first to see if it fixes the problem, so you don't put a ton of work into soldering all the wires to find out it didn't work

#36909 Ok, sounds good, I am wondering if this will fix the climate control issue, or if that will require the harness.

Is the whole dash using one harness? If I was to go that route, I'd need the whole thing, huh?

Also, I plan on putting a Prelude head unit in for the CD player. In that case, should I just buy the harness for that rather than getting the one we discussed above?

One more question, on automatics, is the auto center console supposed to be back lit?

Sorry for all the noob questions, and thanks for your help everyone!

#36911 As far as your climate control goes I think its just a bad connection in the wiring. I did the tape job once, then I lost all of my lights on the whole car so I wired it up properly and it fixed the lighting problem

Yes, it is a factory Honda headunit.

Should I just buy a harness the Prelude head unit rather than a civic head unit?

Looks like this:

#36950 ooo I dunno about the wiring for that man. If your going to be doing that your going to need to find a wiring diagram for both the civic and the prelude then connect the wires. Some of the wires are not going to match up such as green to green it could be green to blue or red. I Never wanted to put the effort into a stock head unit because I didn't think it was worth my time to do and not get a CD player out of the deal. I'll see what I can do and see if I can find a wiring diagram for you
