#102609 I am looking to buy another Civic. The hatch had a title and the "current owner" knows that there is a lein on it. Meaning, the "current owner" has the car and the "owner" has the title but the "current owner" does not know where the "owner" is.

Is there a way for me to get a replacement title? Or a new title? or anyway to make this a legit purchase? Or am I looking at something that will put me in over my head?

I need suggestions ASAP.

Here's the ad:

(This vehicle has no title. Only the previous owner can get it registered, since there was a lein on it. Which it is still registered. If you do plan to fix it and drive it daily, I dont know what to tell you.)

#102614 well if it has a lein on it then only the lein holder can register/tag the car. find out who the lein holder is and you can purchase the car from them.

the lein holder owns the car and whoever is trying to sell it is making a third party sale which is illegal

#102671 is there a way to track down the lein holder?
or should i inform the police?

the hatch is pretty sick and i would definitely love to have it to change into my DD

car is white, with black hood, and roof, has amber corners
it has a black interior swap, with some beat Integra leather seats. no carpet or headliner. Aftermarket CD/MP3 player.
set of black 90-91 CRX Si wheels, needs tires
lowered on Skunk 2 coilovers,
nice stock axleback
DC short shifter with knob
Chipped ECU by Blundell
Has intake and header
Engine runs like ass. D16Z6/D16A6 top/bottom hybrid with Z6 tranny. Smokes a bit, runs rough.

and i think the main reason why it's running rough would be because the chipped ECU is throwing off the entire motor

#102674 I was under the impression that lein meant that there was money on it from the lein holder.

#102687 most everything i've read made it sound like Person A (legit car owner) owned money to Bank A

so...

BANK A (loaned money to)
PERSON A (trying to sell the car to)
PERSON B

in this case, from what i understand...

BANK A (loaned money to)
PERSON A (who had a lein and sold to)
PERSON B (has the car outright, but PERSON A still has title, and is trying to sell to)
PERSON C (this person, being me)

if that makes sense?

#102688 that makes sense, but person B cant sell a car that is in person A's name, you would have to buy the car from person A

Sounds kinda fishy to me tho

#102706 personaly i would stay away from it, cause there was a EK hatch i was looking at with a lein on it and basicaly if Person B did sell it to you Bank A could take up one the lein and you either have to pay up or loose the car

#102725 yeah, i thought it sounded fishy too, but that car is basically EXACTLY what i need.. so it sucks..

oh well, i guess i keep looking
i felt the same way about the whole situation but i just figured i'd get some others input just incase there was a way around it

#102790 If I didnt have a strict "dont buy cars without titles" policy then I'd pick it up, but I like not being in jail. You never know, maybe he is the owner and has the title and as soon as you drive off he calls the cops and reports it stolon then you go to jail and he keeps his car and your $500
