Why are transmissions so neglected?
Posted: Wed Dec 14, 2011 3:12 amI just took a 95 Hatch off my nephew's hands and it has had a grind in 3rd since he bought it a year ago and i told him several times to change the tranny fluid it would probably help. Well he never did so I take it this weekend and go to change out the fluids. Open the drain plug and just a small dribble of oil comes out 
. So panic mode sets in and i think well maybe i just need to tilt the car some. I let it off the jackstand on the front passenger side and i get maybe a 1/4-1/2 quart of oil out of it. I jack her back up and feel around and of course i feel plenty of metal shavings. 
I cleaned out what i could and filled her up with fluid. Needless to say ill be doing a rebuild come spring time.
