It is your country that charges the import tax, correct? I'm not sure how it works, but I am pretty sure it is the receiving country that adds the tax.

Any item priced over £38 will be hit with Import Tax, that's the shit law in the UK.
Also if it isn't marked as a gift and is under £38, they sometimes let it slide.

Right bit of a long one to explain when you import anything the UK will add tax on any items not marked as a gift, this isn't definate as they do check items comming through customs.

If you get stung for tax you'll be charge import tax at 17.5% of the value of the item you've bought and then they put VAT on top of the total value of the item you've bought and the import tax, and then sometimes they will charge customs duty if it works out to be more than £9 or if its value is less than £135 and is not alchole perfume or tobacco.

If the item value is declared as less than you paid for it this will help keep this price down, and if its stated as a gift it must be birthday, wedding gift.
