Turbo and Supercharger discussion

#65452 Is it true that EVERYONE who has a decent turbo system had to fork over the 5 grand or whatever for the turbo kit?

From what I understand, there's no easy way out when it comes to turbo charging your car.

Please prove me wrong...

I mean...I DO NOT have enough experience in the engine bay (or money in the bank) to pull off a turbo charge upgrade. I'm having tons of trouble just doing a wire tuck as it IS...I'd most likely blow something up...

#65478 i'm in the middle of a "custom" kit. so far i have not spent over 300$ for anything. you just have to do tons of research. and ya most decent turbo kits will be at least 1,000$.

so far labor is going to cost me the most with all the custom stuff that needs to be done. either way it's not a cheap thing

#65481 Well, research is one important point in building up your car. But yeah, if you really want a decent, good, reliable, whatever-you-may-call-it turbo set-up, be ready to spend at least 4 digits ($,$$$) on your car. And just a word of advice, stay off the eBay turbo kits. :thumb:

Do it right the first time! :woot:

#65489 hah yeah you guys are right on that one...I guess you could call this thread "me researching"

I hadn't planned on going anywhere NEAR eBay when I hit up a turbo...But I just landed my self a high paying job and I'm lookin to step up my game.

Good to hear you got a good paying job, but of course don't forget to fish out for some deals. You can still use every penny you can save. :thumb: Goodluck on the build.

#65631 an easy way to figure out what u need is to look up an actual turbo kit that a company has and find the parts seperate at a cheaper price.

-intercooler and pipes can come from ebay
-manifold can come from ebay(log style only)
-DSM 450cc u can find on ebay/local/junk yard
-inline resitors for the injectors from radio shack (10ohms at 10watt)
-bov can pick one up used for cheap
-wastegate(if not internal) can be bought used
-fittings and misc nuts and bolts can be found at a local hardware store or ordered online if need be.
-turbos can be picked up used and fixed for fairly cheap depending on the size of turbo. (i used an ihi rhb5 vj11 off of a 1st gen probe gt and had it rebuilt and worked perfectly fine)
-phearable ecu basemap(what i used) or some type of chipped ecu. using crome or uberdata to tune with.
-boost, oil press, and af gauges can be picked up used
-wideband o2 sensor is a plus
-oil filter sandwhich adapter from glowshift used for oil feed line and oil press. gauge.

here are a few sites you can buy shit off of

www.moates.net
www.diyautotune.com
www.phearable.net
www.siliconeintakes.com
www.ebay.com
www.atpturbo.com
www.glowshift.com
