#267842 so ive been wondering...wut is the best block or full set up to boost with for a daily driver...ive been looking up on so many dif. things for my build...but one thing i know i want now is to turbo wut ever i get...but wutever that may be...i want it to be safe and reliable...nd keep in mind that i will be doing a full out build...(cam shaft, pistons, rods etc etc) i would like to know some peoples opinions....the best way for me to save and really start on all of this is when i KNOW wut i want to do....so i need to figure some thing out :thumb: also keep in mind i would like to stay a little more towards the less expensive side

(ps. sorry for the novel i just wrote) :D

You gotta give something up, man! "wut is the best block or full set up to boost with for a daily driver" & "also keep in mind i would like to stay a little more towards the less expensive side". You're looking for the best, but also looking for an inexpensive build. How about a "decent" build?

#267857 Any block will be a good for turbo if you sleeve it. I would say B18c1 turbo, most common i have seen when it comes to Honda DOHC motors. D16z6 or y7 for SOHC.

Also, if you want a fast DD then i suggest hitting the 400-500whp range. Anything more than that is just overkill in my opinion. You will go through tires almost as fast as you will go through a tank of gas. Lol

Were you wanting to do a; D,B,K,J,G or H series swap?

#267864 @ johnRM- i guess i worded that a little wrong... i meant to say i want the best for a less expensive set up that can be used for a DD...if that makes any more sense

@ poorman type-r-i want a DOHC motor....and i was looking into a B20 with a b16 head...but i havnt seen or heard of many peaple boosting that motor (but thats just me)..i see more people with a b18 or 16 boosted...is this because the b20 has to many problems boosted???...any suggestions??

EDIT* ive heard of many people boosting the B20 but havnt seen to many..barely any actually

#267867 I would personally say a turbo Ls would be what I would want in a daily driver . Not as much tuning effort required (one cam profile to tune). And you can still run Ls gears and it will run well and be decent on gas at highway speeds. You could do rods and pistons and some mild head work if your looking for a certain HP point. and have a turbo'd and fairly good low end engine as well.

I loved my turbo ls I had a 93 model ls bottom end with head studs and a p8r b20 head and cams and a good "pieced together" t3t4 kit and a ls trans that I put a LSD into. It was a lot of fun

Just my .02 hope it helps

everything helps...i did some research and asked some of my friends opinions and some said do b20 all motor and some said ls vtec turbo...but im leaning more towards the lsv for now i think that will be a good and fun setup :D

(criticism, opinions, etc, etc are ALL welcome here no offense will be taken :thumb: )

EDIT* i also just realized i never answered poorman type-r....i am looking to do a B series swap....if yu havnt caught on yet lol

#267958 Oh ok. Well if you consider doing all motor then a B20vtec is the way to go. I don't care what anyone does to an lsv N/A setup it will never keep up with a equally built B20vtec. Vtec cracks like a MOTHERFUCKER. I will post a vid of a fully built one.

#268241 i origanally wanted to do a b20 vtec...b ut then relized if i do that i want to COMPLETELY build it and that is a bit of money to spend there....but like i previosly said in another post i think im gunna go with the b18 vtec and eventually turbo it...but im still not 100% sure....any one else care to share what they have or what they think is a good set up ??

#268379 If you plan to go turbo, stay away from the b20 block. The sleeves are weak. If you do ls, or ls-vtec, or b16 or gsr, stock sleeves can handle all the abuse you will throw at em. I have seen 800hp stock sleeves multiple times.

Just a heads up, anything more than about 280-300hp is overkill on the street. All you will do is spin the tires. But that 280-300hp is good for low 12's. thats faster then probably 98% of the cars you will come across on the street. and that power goal can EASILY by reached with a stock engine. Just build a NICE (not cheap out) turbo kit.

i would like to do a ls/v turbo but some people said it is a PITA to swap sometimes....but im new to this so i dont know first hand....im typically looking for a nice swap that will be faster than most cars on the street as a DD....and at the same time not cost an arm AND a leg....maybe just an arm :hehe: ...lol...and i want vtec but from my understanding if i go B series all i have to do is put a vtec head on wut ever block i get....and just so everyone knows i also plan on parting together this motor my self not buying one off line...not sure if that makes a price dif or not...because from my understanding i will have to change some of the internals of the motor if i boost it...and i dont see a reason to buy a motor for $2500-4000 if im going to be ripping it apart any way...or am i wrong about that?? any more suggestions?? thanks in advance

sry for the long post...

#268452 Like I said. Your goals can be accomplished with a STOCK engine. Just turbo kit and TUNED by someone who know Wtf is up. Ls-vtec is no more pita then anything else. Just have to know what you are doing.

#268454 You can't look at it as "how many lbs can it handle". Flow rates of turbos change for every turbo.

I see you're from ny. Check out getpowerhouse.com get their number, call them up. They can take care of you. And if possible, Chris would be the guy you want to tune your car.
