#159884 :woot: :woot: just picked up that setup!!

takin the cheapo kit back tomorrow or saturday and gonna stem the project from this instead. the guy said the manifold itself cost him $700+, and the turbo was off a friends Evo 8 that was taken off at 3000 miles (looks clean as shit). he's gonna give me the exhaust outlet he got for it (has the O2 bunge) so i'll just have to work on the downpipe. i'm so stoked!!

and, gettin the ECU chipped, program put on, and DYNO tuned as a package deal from Blundar. :thumb:

another pic of it...

#159897 heres the turbo specs...

Evolution 8
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-9.8T (GSR / USDM)
TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T (RS/RS2 & NZDM) or 6MT:TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (model unknown)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9.8
Turbine = USDM EVO 8 & JDM GSR =Inconel (steel alloy),
RS=Titanium alloy.
Compressor = Aluminium, 68mm wide

i wonder what psi the stock wastegate is set at? i think they run at like 14-15 from the factory?

#159903 no dont worry bout diggin up the dyno sheet cause i know that a 103 bhp motor is not going to do that of of ten lbs of boost ..........100hp over stock is doing really good ........

#160030 Scoggs, you're wasting your time in here. The guy has his plan. The guy is going to stick to his plan.

10psi on a 68 trim is wildly different from 10psi on a 60 trim. I don't claim to be a turbo guru or anything like that, but I do know that. At 10psi, the 68 trim is going to be pushing more volume of air than the 60 trim at the same pressure.

#160146 i read that the turbo inlet is split like it is so that the turbo sees gasses from the different engine strokes making it spool faster :P

#161003 question...

with a MBC/EBC can i LOWER the psi that the stock wastegate actuates?? if the spring physically takes say 15psi to open, i dont see how it could lower it.. can i get a different spring for the internal?

no...you can't go lower than the wastegate... with an EBC you can say:
1st gear is wastegate
2nd gear is 10 psi
3rd-5th gear 15 (strictly as example)

but no...i've heard you can shorten the arm to make it hold more boost maybe you can go the other way :?

#163807 picked up a intercooler, still lookin for piping...

the only one i've found on ebay that has the bends i want is only 2.25" piping. I'm wanting 2.5

you guys think the smaller piping would be too small? look stupid? or should i just spend the $300 on the treadstone kit (style i want) in 2.5"???

#163809 i'm running the 2.25" piping... it's the size of the throttle body inlet which i heard is a good rule of thumb, if your not running mega boost or huge HP numbers, 2.25 will be more than fine

#169677 so, looks like the plans are gonna change one more time.... :lol:

a buddy of mine decided he's goin K swap into his EG hatch. he's currently runnin a CR-Vtec on 9 lbs. He's got the motor sold and i'm gonna pick up the entire turbo kit this saturday. I'm gonna hold on to the Evo 16g and custom mani for possibly down the road, but this will be easier/cheaper than piecing together the last of the stuff i needed anyway..

the kit...

Garrett t3/t4
Drag cast mani
Tial 38mm WGA
steel mandrel bent IC piping w/ vibrant couplers/clamps
Godspeed FMIC
Greddy BOV
Downpipe that i can bolt right on
all oil feed/return lines/fittings

all i will need to get still is the injectors, oil sandwich plate, a lower psi WGA spring, and a couple random gaskets. I'm excited cause this kit has already been "cutomized" to fit perfect into my hatch!

its goin down.... 8)

#169717 I cant wait.

i talked to him some more. he said when i get all the little things i need and a basemap on the ecu ready to go, we could have it all hooked up in an afternoon no problem. 8)

this kid did completely lose 2nd gear on a friday morning going to work, took the day off, had a new tranny in and at the drag strip that evening. :lol: :lol: :lol:

#169921 had time this evening so i went out and picked up the kit. all looks pretty good.

the IC piping is exactly what i want with minimal couplers and the welds look really good (mandrel bent steel welded and painted black). the front mount is pretty damn big (30"x12"x3"), i'm thinkin with the 9lb wga spring and that big of a IC it'll drop a few psi. i'll have to look into it. but all in all, i'm VERY happy with this kit for $$$ i spent

i was planning on doing timing belt / water pump before all this goes down. you guy think i should get a GSR water pump and t-belt? its a bigger pump and i'm pretty sure it will bolt right on and run with a GSR t-belt. is this right?

#169940 Yes, it will bolt straight up to the LS block. No, it's not bigger. It's actually smaller believe it or not. The impeller of the pump (the part that pushes the water) is slightly smaller in diameter with one less blade. Better for the higher RPM capabilities of the B18C1 engine. If you don't plan on wrapping your engine out past 7500rpm, don't worry about the water pump. As far as the timing belt combo, I'm not sure if you'd use the GSR or LS belt on an LS engine with GSR water pump.

I love working on the B-series engines. It's so easy a child could do it. They're so straight-foreward with everything right there where you need it to be. Except for the damn intake manifold nuts...fuckers...
