so i havent found much info on this.....heres my scoop on the situation....the vtec-e head has the same cumbustion chamber volume as a y8 head....with that said its opened up enough to run some boost...the roller rockers...less friction would give for a little more hp...BUT has anyone here boosted a vtec-e head? how do the rollers hold up to it and how much boost were you runnin? im only curious on this and thought i'd throw it out there....

the Z1 has the weakest rods i'm pretty sure... wouldn't push it too hard.

pretty sure you cant even put a bigger IM on that head... wouldn't even waste my time on it. Z1 is a ECONOMY motor. probably not the best head and especially not the best block for a boost setup

x2
power+z1=fail/waste of money

Hes referring to the VTEC-E Head.
If you want to use a whole d15z1, And putting in LS Rods and reusing the Stock VX(d15z1) Pistons will get a good solid base. LS Rods are good to 300 HP. A Good Cheap rod to go with.
The D15z1 has the same stroke as a d16, 137mm. Giving the best torque of the D15's, Which in a Turbo Honda is always a good thing.
The Head I am not sure how well it handle boost. The VTEC-E Head will help give low end torque. Probably a better handle then a NON-VTEC Heads. You wont have any good source of cams. There is a build on here of someone who port matched there z1 head. and I believe used a D16z6 intake manifold.
I have never thought of using a VTEC-E Head. I planned on using the afore mentioned d15z1 block and a D16z6 head. This is a build I was planning on building.

so here is what i have to conclude so far........ figured that on 6-7psi out of a small turbo(like my 1st gen mitsu turbo)combined with colder plugs gapped down to somewhere around .026-.030" would help prevent knock. maybe have to kick the dist back 1-2*...going to be runnin a fmu for i little but wont be rapin on it...also the y5 head has smaller valve springs so i wont be reving near as high but it'll still be a fun daily...but still if anyone has any info let me know...thanks

yes....im talking about the head alone....like i said it has the same combustion chamber volume as the y8.....my concern was with the rollers...would they hold up...ive found very little on this but what i have read is not bad...i have a mini-me with a z1 head and i loved vtec engagement due to the fact that the secong intake lobe opens in vtec...i liked it but that was only a i/h/e car so nothing like this one will be

thats bad ass. too bad it didn't hold up longer. was that on a stock LS? or a LS/Vtec? or mini-me with LS rods?

all bone stock ls in an ef hatch running on e85 with aem......he only barely bent one rod(pulled the charge pipe off and drove it home!) but only due to tunning on it for 3 hours and forgetting to reload a older tune before he ran it again.....hes baller at this....he was spinning on the dyno...

nice nice.. but back on topic, throw 6 or 7 psi at it and see how it does.. you can always get another "D" head for fairly cheap

yeah....right now i've got my ole trusty a6.....new in package i have some eagle h beams, vitaras, a walbro and ive got my hf mani with a 14b and im gonna just boost the stock a6 on the 14b and fmu for a bit and build a side motor with the rods and stuff but im kinda between using the y5 head or my a6 with a zc cam....kinda interested in the y5 head though but dont want to end up causing damage to the pistons or rods if the head takes a crap on me ya know....dont want a valve fallin down or anything...
