Buying brand new or junkyarding. I'm going to be using an old mitsubishi turbo from a volvo. They also used a small garrett T3 in the same cars. The guy I got the turbo from said that the mistubishi turbos from those cars are a much more solid unit (last a whole lot longer) than the garretts that volvo was using at the time.

Really? I like to see some proof on that as turbo housing are made very similar. Sure, they have slight difference but the component are pretty much the same. Seals and etc..etc..
