#264613 I just bought this turbo kit with intentions of changing some parts

my first question is about the wastegate:
Image
what is this open part in my manifold? is this normal or an I missing a part in my setup, I plan on switching to a cast manifold because I've heard bad story's about these mannies... also it looks like the previous owner made this setion of the mannie himself (see next pic), is it right
Image
aside from being a butcher job of welding, is this right?

Image
I keep reading that you don't hook the vacuum line to his top valve but I can't see any other vacuum ports, is this the right one?

Image
I seen he put a port on the turbo housing, is this for a vacuum line to the wastegate? if so is it fine to use or should I switch it to a intake side so I
don't have the issue of pressure drop in the intercooler

Image
my final question is is this my oil return line? if so should I use braided lines like the other oil lines or will this be fine?

#265295 That looks like the original wastegate tube fell off, and he welded a new one on. It will work. But not very well. You shouhld get the cast mani before getting the car tuned. Since it is an ebay gate, vacuum ports car be different. Typically the top is used with a boost controller. If that is the only port, try it. Use the vacuum source straight off the turbo. That return line will work. But over time it will get really really soft. And can kink.

#265301 thank man I was staring to think nobody saw this haha

from what I read the open port under the wastegate is a dump tube that vents into the engine bay, I don't really like the sounds of that so I'm thinking of welding my own dump pipe back into the exhaust or just down by the oil pan, from what I've heard these mannies crack because they cant hold the weight of the turbos hanging off them, but if you reenforce them from under they hold up fine?, any advise on this idea? :?

#265311 You're talking about the welded on piece the bottom of the wastegate attaches too right? That is how the gate relieves pressure. The front side of the gate that is open is where you need to make the dump tube, just be sure you aim the dump tube a ways away from the turbo inlet. You don't want it drawing in those exhaust gases. It really kills performance.

Those manis can last. I used one for a little over 9months. And then sold it and its still running strong 3yrs later. I welded some braces in though. Let me see if I can find some pics of it.

#265315 ya the brackets on the bottom of the mannie, I welded 3 good size ones on there it should hold out, and as for the wastegate... ya I'm going to ether weld a dump tube that go's down and dumps behind the oil pan or reroute the tube back into the lower section of the downpipe somewhere... I just dont want it dumping exhaust into my engine bay haha
