what waste gate should i use? 38mm or 44mm. I'm unsure of the pro's and cons of both, if any. my set up is, eagle rods, wiseco pistons, golden eagle sleeved block, built head, to start off i will be running an ebay t3/t4 and in about march-april switching to a gt35, and having a guy tune for 500+ hp. i havent had the chance to call the guy and get his opinion so i thought i'd see what you guys say?

stay away from ebay turbos..they last...for awhile..
as far as 38mm or 44mm.. it really depends on your setup. If you need to expel more exhaust gas then you need a larger wastegate.

has some good articles on turbo related stuff.

i only plan on the ebay turbo for like a month tops. i already have one thats never been used, i just need more time, gt35 is freakin expensive. same with the top mount manifold i want. i'm going to be above 20psi so would the 44mm be better? i'll check your link. thanks.

would running a larger waste gate be better or worst weather you need it or not. Like is it better to have more exhaust flow with a turbo set up or less?
I'm a turbo newb

on a honda turbo setup there should never be a need for a 44mm wastegate. The honda motors don't generate enough exhaust to necessitate such a large WG.

all the turbo kits on full-race.com come with 44m waste gates and im sure they wouldnt supply them with there kits if they were over kill.

are you as sure of that as I am that it IS overkill?
Doubt it.
Full Race is not the 'be all, end all' of civic forced induction.. trust me on this.

but why is it over kill? does it matter? I'm kind of a noob to boost. been building my set up for a long while now, but will running a 44mm hurt performance?

lets start from the beginning. what boost pressure do you plan on running?
the deal is that a 38mm wastegate should be more than enough to regulate boost pressures from a honda civic. a 38mm gate will provide more than enough clamping force on the exhaust pressure than most civic motors will be capable of delivering. PROVIDING that the turbo manifold is properly constructed. a 38mm gate will efficiently handle 500-600hp levels without boost creep. If you need to use a 44mm gate to prevent creep then your manifold is poorly designed.

i will be running 15-18psi on the street, and about 25-30psi possibly more on the track. With an arizona turbo mani, just like the ram horn mani. or possibly an sls top mount. turbo will be garrett gt35
i just dont get that a 44mm is overkill. i know people running dual 44's.
So as i asked before, is a 44mm going to hurt me?
this will mostly be a track car.

ok.
the 44 will not hurt your car's performance at wot.
unless you're runing very low cr, plan on running race gas or alky inj. at those boost pressures.
