A friend brought this car to me and asked to diagnose it.

I'm pretty sure its a rod knocking, but just wanted to bring it past you all to get your opinion. It's a 1998 Oldmobile 88.

Is it only at certain RPM while driving or all the time? What about under load vs just free revving?

The tempo varies with engine speed. She said she first heard it with her window down so I guess it makes the noise as she's driving. As the motor warms up, the ticking sometimes goes away but will come back when started again.
