D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#119740 I'm curious to know how D15B7 will respond to having all of the bolt-ons. I know that in my platform, (Nissan Sentra w/ a QG18DE) open headers and a full exhaust cause a drop in torque. The reason I mention that is because VTEC engines typically don't have much low-end torque to begin with and they rev high, usually peaking power in the upper RPM region. In that case, it makes sense to try and raise the high-end horsepower as much as possible. But in the case of a non-VTEC Honda engine, how would one go about tuning it?

#119809 not trying to kill your ideas, but that has been proven to be pretty much a waste of time and money.
The d15b7 isn't much to start with, and there isn't much more you can squeeze out of it with just bolt ons.

x2

The D15b7 is not going to make any power w/ bolt ons. If you want to make power non-vtec get a D16a6 cam and a tune.

However for the effort it would be better to make a Mini-me. You get Vtec, High revving power on the top end, and better fuel economy on the bottom end. If you want your car to be competitive to a Stock z6 you will need a Ex/Si Transmission.

If you dont want to do any major engine rebuild then you can pick up a D16z6, JDM D15B VTEC, JDM ZC VTEC(basically a z6) I had tons of fun on my n/a z6. Added a little nitrous to the mix and my 2500+lbs fully louded EX Coupe was taken down almost anything. It was awesome. :thumb:

If you want torque, on a honda you only have 2 options, Get a Small turbo to spool up earily in your power curve, such as the t25. Or swap to a bigger engines, ie. b18a/b (LS DOHC), B20b/z(crv DOHC), B18c(gsr DOHC VTEC) or even a F/H Series. However they take alot more effort to swap in.

It's cool dude.

Now I know that bolt-ons alone won't result in significant gains, but do you think that it would be enough to satisfy the average driver who isn't looking to compete? For the sake of the matter though, let's say we went with the full I/H/E/IM setup and added cams, along with a mini-me swap. I'd even go so far as to try and reduce some weight. Then the little 1.5 would be cooking!

I like the idea of adding a turbo that DIY tranny guru posted.

But then one begs to ask- is it worth the money?

#119839 Well i dont exactly have a D15b7 but i have an equivalant of one. Its a D15B from a JDM CRX, and i have basic bolt ons at the moment.

Mods:
Delta 272 cam(biggest cam for stock springs and retainers)
K&N drop in filter
2.25" cat back(into stock looking muffler)
Ebay Header(i need a better one)
Bisimoto adj cam gear(not installed yet)

And i have not dyno'd it yet nor tuned it, but i want to get a chipped P06

I will be keeping my build thread updated once i find the few little missing pieces.

I will be going all out as far as a N/A D series only because i am aiming more for drivability than power. even though a 150whp N/A D will be my goal. and i think its possible with a built block.

I will be buying a set of ITB's too.

In the end, I guess you get what you pay for. My friend's goals reflect what you said here. Even though he might have to settle being one of the slower cars out on the road, there are still advantages to having a D15. Think: Gas Mileage...

#120461 you didnt read much did you?

I have a rarer d15b than most, its from a 88-91 JDM CRX. It's Non Vtec and is basicly the same as an A6 but yet completely different.

#126460 My daily is a 95 b7, with ebay Headers, and a full 2.25" exhaust, w cat delete, and a knock off (cai) intake, the gains were minimal, but i feel the MPGs are a bit better. I avg about 430mi / tank city and highway and it just turned 166k. I will be doing a mini-me soon just for kicks.
