D15, D16, D17 and Mini-Me swaps

#152189 So recently i bought a 94 vx and i want to know which head i want to put on my D15Z1 i want to know which would be better for a n/a engine a Z6 head or a Y8 head all feed back is greatly apperciated.

#152237 imo .. y8 if your not gonna run a turbo ever ... cause they got higher compresion so youll have just a hair more power than the z6....but if you rgonna run turbo go z6 .. remember this is just what i would do ..

z1 dizzy will fit

y8 head:
slightly higher compression
will need to buy obd1 dizzy from d15b7/b8 to fit

That's the only major difference, unless you will also be replacing the intake manifolds. then...

z6 IM:
obd1 = same sensors
slightly better top end flow

y8 im:
99-00 has cold start assist, additional holes to plug vs 96-98
IAT sensor will need to be relocated
must be from a manual y8
injectors will not fit obd1 plugs
slightly better mid rpm flow

the VX IM is pretty small/restrictive, may want to consider upgrading :thumb:

#152514 i was thinking more of an after market mani. I was also wondering if any one had any feed back about the d17 pistons and rods? Ive heard they up compression but you need to do a little machinng how much machining is a little? Also which ECU will i need with this swap?
