d15b2 - d16 y8?

- Tue Mar 02, 2010 7:48 am #178660 i know the "mini me" write up is a d15 b7 - d16 y8 just wanted to check, planning on buying d16 y8 to do the conversion, the engine is out a (uk) p reg 1997 coup'e, but i eventually gotta reply the code was d16 y8

am i goooood to go :hehe: with this if the engine is sound??

- Tue Mar 02, 2010 8:50 am #178663 If you are getting the whole d16y8 ... why bother doing the head swap on your current engine. Swap the whole thing. I mean if you are going to have the entire engine anyway, you might as well use it.

- Wed Mar 03, 2010 7:54 am #178886 See what you mean the only reason for the mini me, was ive had my engine for the last 20k and its been gooood as gold, and the prev was a middle aged women that never heard of a limiter lol! , dont wanta put an engine in thats had a hard life is there any majors to look out for??? other than leaks!

If you are really that worried, tear down the y8 get it cleaned, get the clearances checked (or do it yourself). Replace the bearings, seals, gaskets, etc. Then you have a brand new engine, pretty much.

If you are planning on building the car more, like a higher compression N/A build or a turbo, you REALLY want to switch to the d16y8. There is next to no after market support for the b7, while there is tons for the y8. If you have grand plans for the car, do the full y8 swap, you'll thank yourself later on.

Seriously though stick with the y8.
