A D16a6(88-91 Si Engine) Cam will bring the d15b7 to life. Doing a Mini-me to gain vtec with a EX/Si Transmission will make for a much more fun ride. It also is inexpensive so is budget friendly.

Are we talking just the cam or the shaft too? if thats a stupid question its because im learning...... and will I notice much from this change or do you think I should go in for a B? I'm getting tempted but if I dont need to then well....

The Cam Shaft, The Cam Gear can stay the same.

If your going for a B, I wouldn't recommend a B16. I have owned one and rather quickly sold it and bought a JDM b20 and kept the b16 transmission. I mainly do mountain runs and track days. The b16 with b16 transmission setup couldn't keep up. When I put the b20 with the b16 transmission I was then able to keep up with.

JDM D15b with Bolt Ons, such as Intake pipe, Intake Manifold, header, and exhaust will be a pretty good setup. However it wont be as quicker as the same mods on a b16 or b20. However it will be a good deal cheaper.

When you put in a B Series its an easy swap, however not everything is comptable. For an example putting the above mentioned b20 in my delsol, i needed new motor mounts. Rear T Bracket, Axles, Shift Linkage, Throttle cable, and Computer. Everything will bolt into place once you get them, a B Series swap is a little more difficult because.

#198633 OK... I'm now thinking D15B is my best option. Seeing as I have never done anty engine work myself and ill be relying on friends for some help.

I'm seeing some people advertising them with 3 stage vtec and some that dont. Do all D15B have 3 stage vtec or should I look out for one that does?

#198635 the way 3 stage works:
0-2500 rpm only one of the two intake valves is opening (great for miles per gallon)

once 2500 rpm is reached all valves are operational (engine is running normal)

once 6000 rpm is reached "true" vtec kicks in (and your hauling ass lol)

iv never had 3 stage but its only benefit is gas mileage (which we can all use)

#198742 3stage vtec is only the obd2 jdm d15b. The OBD1 is a single vtec just like the d16z6.

the 92-95 obd1 jdm d15b is an awesome engine and has a better torque curve then a d16z6. Therefore making it a better engine to build then a d16z6.

____________

The d16a6 cam in a d15b7 is the cheapest d15 cam you will get your hands on.

Random Honda-Tech page(post 20) claims it will bump your 102hp d15b7 into a 135hp d15b7.

Combined with an EX Transmission and a better intake manifold(such as a d16z6) It should beat a z6 in acceleration from a dig. It will get its power quicker then the d16z6 will, if you have the same gearing then you should be quicker.
