bent valves/ compression??

- Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:20 am #223553 So im going a side job for a buddy replacing a timing belt on a d15b7 in a 91 crx. Well that was easy as cake. But im wondering if he bent a valve when re belt snapped ainced he was driving it when it broke. I wonder this because the motor still wont start it has coreest timing. Fuel. Air. And spark.

If I did a compression test would the results be low if a valve was bent? I assume it would but wan a second opinion

I know are motors are interfrance motors so Toni belt snapps while drivib a freeway your bound to bend a valve. But the kid says he was idling when it broke.

- Fri Nov 19, 2010 3:24 am #223554 it doesn't matter if you are idle or 7000 rpm when the belt snaps. an interference motor such as ours will hit a valve no matter what rpm. I've heard of only a couple of cases where people got lucky and the cam must have been at just the right spot .

sometimes ppl get 'lucky' when their timing belt breaks, most do not.

- Fri Nov 19, 2010 7:20 pm #223639 yea compression test will tell you a lot about a motor. It will tell you if there is a problem with the valves. In my case i bought a civic about a year back that was running rich and missing. After doing a compression test i came to the conclusion that the headgasket was bad. However durring head removal i realized the timing belt had been replaced and once i got the head off i found one of my exhaust valves had a large chunk taken out of it. However if it wont start at all then your friend must have hit valves in two or more cylinders. Good luck with it.

Same thing happened to me... First time changing a timing belt... Well you say it was a piecre of cake... could you tell me how to replace it... or guide me in the right direction.. It's on a 92 Civic, block d15b7,, I'd appreciate it... Thanks.
