#251897 i thought i blew a head gasket the other week on my car,
changed it, new spark plugs, oil change the works...
the problem with the car was a misfire (didnt realize it was a distributor)...

normally when i let on the gas it gets the car up to speed , then if i let off a little bit on the pedal it speeds up real quick
. ..well after doing the head gasket, and putting my buddys old working distributor on it still doesnt pick up when i let off the gas

....the rpms are high when im in second gear (not normal) and ill only be going 25 or 30 and it just seems like its being held back

...my buddy said i could have put a nonvtec distributor on and is that possible?... please any info would be greatly appreciated.

#251948 Non-vtec and vtec dizzys don't line up with the wrong engines properly. There would be one bolt hole that didn't work. As for the internals, they're all the same.

Your car should slow down when you let off the gas.

#251956 actually the non vtec dizzy wont even fit in the head im not sure what your talkin about wont line up with the tabs. did you check the basics, plugs, wires, fuel?

#251978 i didnt realize that a non vtec one wouldnt fit...it only makes me more confused...
yes when i let off the gas the car slows down, but what im saying is normally when im accelerating ill push hard on the gas to gain speed and letting off the gas just a little bit will get into that sweet spot and pick up even more out of nowhere! love it...

but right now it doesnt do that. i just have to lay on the gas and it takes a while to accelerate..
when i got the car id be doing 60 in 4th easily, now its like 55 in 5th...wtf did i do...i realized my clutch might be going ..any input would be nice

#251993 if your clutch was that bad youd be able to smell it.
also check your timing.

i know what you mean with the sweet spot. Mine does it too, but thats because of timing being off or something causing your car not to dump or keep up with the dumping of fuel at higher requirements.

The sweet spot is when its finally able to keep up again.
This means everything higher than that sweet spot your car should be going even faster.

#252021 thankyou finally someone that understands...so what should i do? i just found out i cant drive it because the timing belt slides off a little bit and it is now rubbing against the plastic cover making a notch...once this is fixed should i re time it and the sweet spot will come back? or do i have to fuck with the actuall solenoid?

#252038 Well I couldn't really say until the timing is fixed. I'd definitely make sure your mechanical timing is right. You know, head and bottom end both at tdc. Then tighten your belt tentioner up until u aren't easily able to feel slack in the belt. After that let us know if/what the changes are.

#252055 yea about that....my tensioner is a pain in the ass and took a while to loosen up

Non-vtec dizzy WILL fit a vtec head, just the tabs dont line up on a Z6. Fits perfect on a y8 head.

definitely sounds like you are a tooth off on timing.
