#284036 so yea id like to know how i could get my car to back fire a buddy told me to disconnect the o2 sensor and delete the cat. and then maybe something will come out . would it depend on the gas im using or retarding / advancing the timing ? cool info to keep in mind if i ever wanna do this to a friends car :P

#284038 taking out the o2 sensor and deleteing the cat wont really do anything..

you could but a spark plug at the end of your exhaust tip. that supposedly does it. never tried it. i dont think it works. i dont care for it.

i think most cars do it is because they run really rich. i could be wrong.

#284053 all u gotta do is turn the key off going down the road to cut the spark but still pump air and fuel into the exhaust, turn the key back on, and boom! I used to do it all the time when I had a completely straight pipe exhaust and it was loud.

supposably you cant do it with fuel injected engines but ive done it.

lol ive heard of that too but i mean like just driving and then shiftinf a gear and POP ! backfire and ive also hear of the spark plug idea but i dont want to run wires to the back lol

Any more ideas anyone ?

#284057 the spark plug idea is pretty much bogus. your car would have to be dumping unburned fuel into the exhaust for it to have something to ignite. thats why those "flamethrower kits" have a thing u hook up that cuts spark to 1 cylinder so you have unburned fuel in the exhaust. persoanlly that aint something I want done to my car. I like my ignition system to work.

there was a kid around my town a few years ago that had an EK that would pop and backfire all the time all he had to do was blip the throttle and it would pop. I never heard exaactly how he did it but supposably he had a bunch of sensors unplugged or some crap. ive googled it out of curiosity but never figured it out :?

#284075 just put on a turbo and a 3" straight pipe

if i decelerate with the car in gear and give it a quick rev as soon as i put it in neutral, i can get a good pop out of it

#284170 I get a little pop out of mine too, turbo w/ 3" exhaust, straight through muffler. Giving it gas and then almost completely letting off while going down a slight hill = pop
Got more frequent as the weather got colder... I'm in need of a fresh tune.

Or yeah the turn the key off with the car in gear while going down the road will do it pretty much every time.

I wouldn't want to do this intentionally, I doubt it can be healthy for your car & attract unwanted attention from cops.

Never disconnect your o2 sensor & go driving - great way to hurt your motor. Your ECU will have no idea what's going on with no o2 sensor and engine will run terrible.

I do it all the time in my old 77 Chevy pickup. its fun on a bun. but its more of a shotgun blast than a little pop lol and plus its got driver side exit exhaust so its fairly easy to aim

#284189 Backfire and fireball are different things, You dont want backfires bad for your motor. With that out of the way, Anti-Lag will cause a fireball as will running really rich with a straight pipe then hard shifting at rev limiter will cause a fireball. I remember reading a little about it on an evo forum. If I remember correctly any car with a rev limiter if you bounce off it or shift on it and hard shift you can fire ball as long as you have a straight pipe doesn't necessarily have to be rich.
