block guard??

- Tue Aug 26, 2008 1:22 am #67328 im not sure if theirs another topic about block guards, but i have no idea what a block guard is...i kinda know what it is through looking at pics of it, but im not sure what it is or what it does..i also seen that somebody metioned something else besided block guard in other nother forum but i cant remember what it is either...its like a block guard....can somebody help me out and tell me what it does, and when one is needed... :?

Good: they help support the cylinder walls & add strength.

Bad: they can soak up & retain heat from the combustion chamber since these were originally open deck engines.
