#68877 Well after talking over why i havent been able to see a motor (b18b1 for 80$) its gotten frustrating a friend of mine bought it never saw it but got the cam gears from the motor (a friend of his supposevly took them off) now with winter approaching im getting even more impatient with not getting a motor for a decent price. already hunted down the hydro trans but now im thinking of selling it and getting funds for a fun d project that i know will be fun because d's are everywhere.

Well here is what i thought of after researching alot.....

I was thinking of picking up a DOHC ZC off the internet from one of the sites ive found. though im seeing now the prices of the whole swap equal that of the b18b1 motor. now im just looking for the longblock so im guessing somewhere between 450-500 for it. I plan on chipping either one of my p28's or the numerous p06's at my local yard. so the motor will run correctly.

And with that I was thinking of turboing it to gain some extra power. but this dose come with some negatives

Parts for the DOHC ZC are hard to truely find. in the states where i am located i have found parts you can substitute but yea that is truely to me a gamble.

Now another idea instead of using that B18 motor would be to grab a D16z6 or another 1.6 d block and popping on one of my extra Z6 heads with of coarse new parts and machining. to make it able to handle some boost.

Now I dont plan on haveing a fast fast speed racer car. I just plan on having some fun with it and when i hit the gas pedal feel some response that will somewhat plant me in my seat. its going to be a daily driver and auto cross car so just wondering what you all think of what i am thinking since im getting really fed up with no parts being available from teh junk yard for a bseries and a crapload of d series stuff available....

#68885 Yeah the ZC will be something different when you pop the hood, but is it worth the more expensive price & harder to find parts when compared to the common Z6?

Your call, depends on your time & budget. :thumb:

#68890 Fair point, is it really worth it lol.
Just use the cash to put into the Z6.

#68900 yea that is what i was thinking ill at least have some time to look into why no matter what i do in wireing up vtec it wont work....unless i hook it up to a switch but thats another day another time and another thread lol....

Well to fund it im prolly selling the gsr internal ls case hydro trans. and my 84 trx 200 atv just because im not really as into it as i would be if i wanted to keep it....so i should have funds pretty close to 1000 if not more so that hopfully should be enough

And I just talked to a friend of mine he was asked to sell a whole d series turbo kit off of a 97 coupe. (Dseries) and i put in a low ball offer since he said it should be ok so we will see on that in the meantime time to sell sell sell lol....

Nobody can do it better than the ecu :thumb:

I know that one I just did it to check my solinoid quickly as i have 6 that ive tried previous and cant think that 6 would be bad you know...but yea probaly going to do a Z6 high compression and Z6 turbo build since i have two hatches and once i get the Z6 bottom end i should end up with 2 Z6 motors (already have a head. so this should be interesting to see. how things go though if the turboing goes smoothly I might just turbo both but we will see

#68937 Hey buddy, Yeah just so u know HIGH COMPRESSION is a pain in the ASS if u want to get the most out of your engine !

u preety much should oversize everything, get the head shaved and everything needed ported and polished and that right away will give a good base start for high comp, either wy u go good luck!

and as Teal said VTEC switches =junk . just get a GOOD tune and your tune+ecu will do the job !

Goodluck ! :thumb:

#68961 Shaving the head isnt really needed for the high CR motor. its needed to properly seat the head to the block.

Shave the head and deck the block to make sure they are perfectly flat. It just so happens that shaving the head also raises compression becuase it reduces the chamber size.

#68964 That's right, also a port flow would help out, on all motor u want highest compression u can get, and u want everything flowing nice ! also a nice cam helps !

#69011 The DOHC ZC has one of the worst combustion chambers of any Honda engine. Bad combustion chamber design requires more advance timing and lends itself to knock; two things that wont work with high compression.

Get a Z6 or a B, and then put some Endyn roller waves in it. Just ask them what's the highest you can go one 91 octane. The roller waves are designed to allow stupid high compression ratios w/out stupid high octane.

#69230 I was just thinking about high compression not probaly going to go through with it but definately going through with the turbo idea getting a turbo out of a Volvo which are normally t3/t4's or smaller depending on make and model. but besides that i do have a spare hf manifold and probaly going to buy an adapter plate for that or just buy a aftermarket header that looks similar something simple.

Then I plan on hopfully selling my GSR hydro trans for 500 which should allow me to buy some more things and allow me to get my engine somewhat preped and hopefully tuned well....(what tuning devices are you guys running? I was thinking of some sorta piggy back set up or something that plugs into the laptop for ease of fine tuning.....

#69232 just keep the GSr tranny and get a LS. Finding a cheap one is hard. You just have to look around. I got my complete swap for 400 bucks. LS block with GSR tranny.

If you are just looking for a block, they sell for about 650 here from a honda yard and online locally for a bit less. I have found a few LS longblocks with us ITR pistons for about 300.
